Vic Road Questions
 

Hi All,

Hoping for a solution for a mate regarding Vic rego. He has spent the last 8 years completing a ground up build of a 1959 Plymouth Belvedere.

He fronted up at Vicroads to enquire what was needed to register his pride and joy only to be told it could not be registered.

This was based on the car having no previous history with Vicroads or other state authorities, (VIN number or past rego number). What he does have is the chassis number and engine number. Both of which do not show up on records. The car itself was assembled in Australia, right hand drive and the chassis number confirms this by the number sequence and told it has been registered in Australia.

Records at Vicroads were entered on computer as far back as 1971, and as required before this. Older records are now kept by AOMC Engine & Registration Records in Victoria but unfortunately after finding a car made only 10 units after his, had no card in its place suggesting it was filed out of order or misplaced. He has contacted Chrysler and they are looking into it. Also looking at club rego but that has obvious restrictions. Trying to keep clear of engineering as it is a old car running a motor of the same era.

So any suggestions or other avenues you think could be taken would be appreciated.

I am sure there will be an answer out there somewhere?

Does he still have reciept from sale?
Or any old pics of the car with a number plate in view?
He may need to get into contact with previous owners?

As far as I was aware ..All you'll require is the proof of purchase and a current RWC ..often these cars had no Vin number or engine number...if bought legally in Australia and rebuilt to a Roadworthy condition as the vehicle was imported they have no reason to not register it.

Mmm sounds like the Vic Roads person was simply not interested.

I recently registered a '65 car and found it quite simple as I had all the paperwork.

Is there an option of applying for a VIN number.

Pray for privatisation of Vic Roads then you may see some serious improvement in customer service....:LOL:

Like an engine transplant many of them need a personality transplant - :eek:

This is from the Hot Rod site.

Write to Vic roads Registration & Licencing at 1st floor 60 Denmark St Kew 3101. Tell them that you have restored the car and that it was previously registered. Give them the engine number and chassis number or vin number. request that you now wish to register the vehicle after a full restoration using the engine number etc and they may issue you with a letter to allow the car to be registered. If you want to enquire first, try 9854 2285. They may give you an answer on what may be required. Regards, John.

Not sure about Vic, but up here the 90 days breaks down to 60 days for club events & 30 days as free use.

I'm sure we can find a related club event!!!!...

Just as I explained to the ATO getting to my Investment properties isn't always a direct or quick get too....
I am entitled to take whatever(reasonable) route or time frame to get there!!!:3DSMILE:
....In this case we are just careful drivers taking our time to get to an advertised event!!!:p............Saturday week!!!:)

These rego's do have an onus on the Club so they are a privilege that the club gets through the roads authorities so they are useful in you mates Case!!

Just be careful if your going to abuse the system (drive without filling in log book, claim events when dont exist, club events must be recognised by your club etc) Because not only do the authorities remove your plates, but they take the system away from the club, so all club members who are registered on club plates are now unregistered, You wouldnt be too popular.

That is why I added at the end of my post!!!..... of the importance that they are used appropriately!!!...:)

I have had my cobra on the SR club rego for the last 10 year and it is great i have never been caught out and only $100. a year if i want to go to a event i just go and just keep a event ad in the car .

I am not sure if SR is the same as the Club Plate system, but club plates in NT the club (your plates are under) must recognise and sanction the event for it to be eligable to be a club event.
I asked the club hat my X - Hearse is registered with (1971 Valiant) if it would approve the Chrysler on the Murray event I attended early this year, they would not, so the 10 days driving came out of my 30 day allowance.
