Trailer Features you like
I may be commissioning a trailer and have been asked for a list of the features that I'd like. :confused:

If your building it specific for your Cobra I have seen tie downs that go over the tyre, these could be spaced out corrrect for Cobra wheel base.
With your car being so low, will you need to go with a tilt base? 1. Beaver Tail 2. Light As possible 3. Same Stud pattern as your tow car 4. Winch with a low anchor point ( near the floor height ) 5. LED Lights 6. Electric Brakes 7. Front wheel/tire down anchor points ( for low cars ) then it can be used for all cars. 8. Tie down box on the trailer ( left tham at home a few times ) 9. Front shade cloth to protect the cars. I did a bit of reasearch a few years ago on this topic. I feel you only need to buy 1 trailer in your life. STIFFY |

on my enclosed trailer i like the winch, e-track full length and using over the tire straps.
i have an electric tongue jack that doesn't work right now, cranking by hand is just as easy. i put dynamic balancers on the tires also since i like them on the truck so much, makes tires last much longer and keeps vibrations out of the trailer. |

Just rehashing some previously made suggestions: I have an enclosed trailer and my winch is worth its weight in gold. Don't leave home without it. You may occasionally need some boards if your loading angle is not always favorable. Also, when I was purchasing a trailer, I was prepared to pay for a fairly expensive trailer. The salesperson, who believed he was being very helpful, talked me into a considerably cheaper trailer (he believed the more costly trailer I was considering was overkill for my use). I have forever regretted that. The trailer pulls fine but pieces of the interior have fallen off (onto the car) during transport and it is very prone to rust.

lockable box - is a must it its not enclosed Surge brakes- personal preference WINCH- I don't have one, but I will shortly. lots of anchor points-(e-track is great) all of my friends use it. I like the look of those trailers that lower or tilt (suspect I will have long ramps tho) I will send the list off in the morning My new trailer construction will come about if my old one is sold (got an offer from a guy with an old BMW 3 series racer) I really like that my trailer is small/light but it was built for a rally car and is just that bit tight/steep some times. Getting the new one built for the Nationals might be a challenge... LoBelly |
I use a Serpent Express trailer. Obviously, you wouldn't want to ship one to you. But Coming up with something similar would nto be a problem.
Things I like: - Multiple doors. Especially the one in the front. Makes it real easy to move stuff from the back of the truck to the trailer for storage. - E-track. Makes it hand for other uses, too. Like tying down cargo and furniture. - Beaver tail. No ramp extenders needed. - Fold up tongue jack. I wanted a open trailer( my back is to bad to crawl around inside a enclosed trailer)....had one custom built....criteria....as light and as low and as wide as practical....ended up with a dropped single axel(5400lb payload) tilt (no beavertail or ramps necessary)...chocks(stops) on front...no need for a winch... electric brakes...use the SPF shipping loops for tie down.. and THE TRAILER FENDERS LOW ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO OPEN THE DOORS ON THE CAR...cost about $3500... works as designed...don't have a need to haul in bad weather....

my pet hate is ramps so have hinged or no ramps is best.
i have short ramps which are hinged to the back od the trailer which also have the lights mounted on them. my trailer has air bag suspension which allows the traielr to lower itself and allows me to load the race car with its front spoiler fitted another job i dont have to do at the track. also the weight of the trailer is important the heavier it is the bigger the tow vehicle has to be. oh and the last and most important 4 wheel electric brakes . oz. |
You don't say whether you want enclosed or open? I really like the tilt deck trailers, especially for low cars with lower exhausts as they increase your loading clearance. Common stud pattern was a good suggestion with standard size lug nuts too. An electric winch is nice especially with a clutch so you can unreel quickly by hand.

I think that the trailer will ultimately have to perform duties other than carting cobras around, I think that an enclosed trailer would be the ultimate but I'm pretty sure that I'll punt for an open model.
