Hi Hissin,
Your car looks great. I love the white side pipes. Must have taken a long time to get the body that flat. I hung the doors on my RCM on the weekend and its going to take a lot of work to get the body looking that good. |

Very nice indeed. I think white side pipes and halibrand look wheels really give the old school look.
Are you going to have side repeater (indicator) lamps also? |
Yep great stuff Hissin Got to be proud of that little beauty.

thanks for the kind words .The car was built for my wife it took 18 months to finish and zedn the doors are easy if you follow the the steps if you get stuck i will try and help . I did the body first that gave all the materials time to settle down. Before painting and no shrinkage.**)

I think a lot of my problems with the body are due to the body being about 10 years old and the guy i bought it off had it stored outside under a tarp for god knows how many years. My inner door skins are too big for the openings so either hit on the door striker plate or rub on the body next to the hinges. Its no big deal, just a bit of extra work. The passenger side door bracket doesnt have enough adjustment for the door to sit flush with the body so i have had to pack washers between the bracket and the intrusion bars. It looks like i will need a lot of filler on the top of the door to build it up flush with the body and form the bead to match the edge of the dash. I just wanted to get the doors on at this stage whilst i was waiting for my savings to catch up with my progress. So havent started on filling and gaping the doors. |
Hey Liam sitting in the yard with a tarp over it for years isn't such a bad thing. It gave the glass time to shrink and settle. In the old days blokes used to leave their 'new' fibreglass replacement panels (guards bonnets etc) out in the sun for a few weeks to shrink , harden and 'set'. This 'time' allowed any crows feet or spider cracks to show their ugly heads before preparation and painting . I met a bloke up here that was building a GT40 and left the front bonnet up whilst he did other stuff. The glass was green and when he finally shut the bonnet it didn't fit anymore. It had sagged on the hinges under it's own weight. He was lucky. he strapped it down tight with seat belts and it almost came back to specs.

Yes, i agree. Great for curing. But not good if everything isnt sitting flat or supported. I think my inner door skins have sagged down causing the sides open out.
As you say, at least it should be well cured! |
