rmc suspension
Hi, i have 91 rmc. When my car is jack up,my front springs become loose(not trapped)Does anyone know if this is with all rmc? Also need to know what type of steering column was used

elvis, my front springs have about 18mm preload when at full droop.
In other words, they are captive when the load is off the suspension. Steering column is mitsubishi Colt RB to RE series, XL,GL,SE,GSR and GLX models. Column is modified by RMC for length. |
Hi welcome Elvis, Can't help much with the loose spring issue except to say RMC's series I & II had bump steer issues which is relatively easily addressed. There are a few threads regarding this if you have a search. I think by lowering the steering rack.
As for the column, they mainly used 70's Mitsubishi Lancer or Sigma. If the column shroud is basically round and only with indicator stalk - it's Lancer, if it is bulky and square with indicator, wiper and headlight stalks - I'ts Sigma. Having said that, if it was private built, it could have anything. Edit; Just saw Rebels post, he will know better than me. |

GForce somewhat copied RMC including column recommendation which is from an early sigma I believe. Also probably very likely the same front set up and my springs do not loosen when jacked free, nor should they in my book. Just noted other posts and colt comes to mind too. I did add a simple shim (one wrap of steel roofing sheet) around my column and you can then mount a hyundai lock with all the indicator gear and intermittent wiper straight onto the column. I'd have to look through my notes to get you a year but I think about mid 90's Hyundai gear. Just need to find the version that mates up to the steering lock location. I also found an all alloy SAAS boss to fit these columns that can be shortened to further reduce how far the steering wheel sticks out and which helps improve access into the cabin and driving position comfort by pushing the wheel away from you some more. All part of the research phase. |

However, of more important concern is the failing of the front upper A-Arm mounting plate. This plate to which the Jag pivot bar is bolted flexes and will break causing that side suspension to fail in a big way. RMC did provide a fix but many many RMC owners were not advised of the issue nor received the modification. |
thanks everyone, the car handels fantastic it was set up by Jaime Gard (WA),but the loose springs are a concern
