Sounds good Paul. Please keep me advised, if possible.

sambo 01-13-2011 01:24 PM

Will do Merv. Drop me an email with your phone number if you'd like to discuss.

Merv and Sharon 01-13-2011 01:51 PM

This is a raw version of one similar to the Harrison/RMC that I am considering making up:

Another view of the Le Mans style which has good window fitting:

And one with "Dan Gurney" type bumps!

Will send PM Paul.

I have tons of pics of the DB Replicas hardtop, will post over the weekend.

Gav 01-13-2011 06:40 PM

Has anyone actually got a reply from DB replicas in regards to a leMans top.
I tried a few times and gave up!

sambo 01-13-2011 06:56 PM

Gav, I had an email exchange back in 2009. He said a previous request for shipping quote to Australia came in at around 1000 GBP (pounds). I'm just waiting for international calls to be activated on my mobile plan and I'm going to phone them for more info.

Gav 01-13-2011 07:42 PM

I would be interested to hear how you go.

boxhead 01-13-2011 08:34 PM

Yep, let us know Sambo.

Modena 01-14-2011 02:41 AM

My goodness that is the business!!

I've had a few email exchanges with DB Replicas and gathered lots of measurements and pics of fitment, etc. Also found Les's original thread from 2007!

Here's a summary:
  • The hardtop is delivered on a crate that costs about £150 and is about 1.7m long, 1.5m wide and about 0.75m tall, all up weight including the crate is around 100 kilos.
  • The width of the top behind the doors is 1360mm.
  • The width across the screen (about half way up) is 1257mm.
  • The measurement across the boot lid at a point around 254mm forward of the rear registration number light cannot be more than 800mm otherwise the lid will not open between the sides of the hardtop tailgate latches.
  • Along the top of the door, the distance from B-pillar to base of screen is 765mm, however my Harrison measures 840mm. This means chopping/extending the roof or reshaping the roof behind the door opening to gain another 70-80mm, plus making the side windows and frames a bit longer - Dave can supply materials to suit.
  • Price for full kit is 1700 GBP.
  • UPDATE: Shipping to Melbourne by sea is £700 (7 weeks) or by air is £800 (10 days)

Am I right in saying that this would attract 10% GST and 5% duty, calculated on £1700?

Paul

sambo 01-18-2011 01:44 PM

I spent 30 mins on the phone to Dave at DB Replicas this morning. Great bloke and very passionate about his work. So I'll be placing an order in 2-3 weeks. Just need to win the argument about the wife's new horse saddle!

Merv and Sharon 01-18-2011 02:43 PM

Sounds good Paul. I have not had time to do any measurements as yet. I assume that you did on the Harrison. How did that go? What adjustments are needed?

sambo 01-18-2011 03:07 PM

Merv, most measurements checked out. The gap from B-pillar to base of screen (across top of door) is 75mm longer on my car than the door opening in the roof. I can move my screen back a little but the roof will need extending or reshaping. So I'm organising a mould to be taken before wielding the axe. Will also order a spare rear screen for copies to be made locally.

For those interested in more photos of the DB Replicas hardtop, I've created an album on photobucket.

400TT 02-09-2011 05:18 AM

GST is payble on the freight cost as well. So purchase price + freight cost is counted for GST.

sambo 02-09-2011 12:12 PM

Thanks Craig. Do they ever ask for proof of purchase price such as bank statements or wire transfer receipts? On previous occasions they've just taken whatever the sender has marked on the outside of the package. You probably know where I'm heading here...

400TT 02-10-2011 01:33 AM

Yes customs can ask for proof of payment to verify the price of goods and I have had to provide that evidence in the past on shipments.

Just be careful as you can incur other costs on importation. If there is unexpected costs at this end due to additional inspections from quarantine etc, the freight carrier will pass on these extra charges to you. Sea freight seems to be more susceptible to these charges from time to time.

Nice hardtop though.

Always loved this hardtop. The best by a wide margin. sambo, keep us posted on your satisfaction if/when you get it.

Given you won the argument with your wife about the saddle.

Edit: Any idea what that rear glass is from?. Custom made?.

sambo 02-28-2011 01:47 AM

Yeah custom glass Les. Good news, just sold my old daily driver so the roof will be ordered in the next week or so. What horse saddle?! ;)
