Intro....

Hi folks,

I've been lurking for a little while now and I figure that this is as good a time as any to introduce myself.

After lusting after cobras for as long as I can remember, two months ago I took the plunge and bought a DRB which was first registered in '03 with full engineer documentation. The build is very basic, and I mean basic, as the previous owner didn't have any previous experience. And that is evident. I have some custom experience having built a few bikes (VMax's) in the recent past and I've also had many v8's and 'ground-up' basic perfomance cars (from Datsuns to Subaru's to an M3 and others).

I wanted to buy a cobra which was already registered to not have the hastle of Vicroads and engineers etc, and I ultimately would like to end up with an old school build (not so much a replica), so this little jigger should do nicely.

So here I am, starting to make plans for the machine. I am fortunate that I have a ford wiz that will take care of the engine and drivetrain... Looks like we will stroke the 302W to 347 with the usual mods with the veiw to about 350 to 400 hp. There are a whole swag of other ideas but I have decided to do the paint last.. And that is where I am at.

Looks like a helpfull community of enthusiasts here, I look forward to getting to know you all in due course.

Cheers,
Toecutter :)

Welcome Toecutter.

It sounds like you have a good plan of what you want, so I am sure it will come together well.

Hi Toecutter and welcome,

You have certainly done the right thing, buying a registered and engineered Cobra instead of building from scratch and experiencing the frustrations that many of us have and are suffering.

Good luck and best wishes with your renovation.

Thanks for the warm welcome folks. You wanted pics, here they are. Like I said, the car is quite basic but we have fixed a few things (gearbox housing rested on the rear cross member, fuel lines and main positive wires were held in position with zip ties, simple tune and fluid change, increased clearance for rear tyres, we installed a new 2 1/4 system from the cats back... etc) So now it has had a good shakedown and about 600klms under its belt, I think I will just drive it and gather some more ideas...

I welcome any advice and comments with an open mind and thank you for taking an interest. :)

As you can see, the hood is all wrong so another is on the cards in addition to a lower scoop that is not as wide (changing the inlet manifold and induction with the new donk). Paint will need attention in due course... Also need to remove those bogus 427 badges.

Also, I'd like to make another dash and replace the switches.

It looks like you got a nice solid base to work with....
take it out and enjoy it for a while....

Good stuff Toecutter.
I would continue to drive it whilst warm enough and weather is good.
Maybe keep a note pad in easy reach and anything you think of while using, jot it down and come winter, you will have a list of things you would like to change.

enjoy toecutter, we do.
