Fun at the drags

We had a headlight night meeting for the local drag club tonight.

While the sun was still up they ran a "test & Tune" session over the full 1/4 mile.
I managed a best run as follows.
Reaction time - .328
60ft - 2.056 et
1/8 - 8.259 et
1/8 - 87.63 mph
1/4 - 12.789 et
1/4 - 108.64 mph
I did this in full street trim, 3/4 tank of fuel and normal road tyres.

Then after the sun went down they set it all up for the night running
Night time was 1/8 only and run as a dial your own bracket format.
Had an absolute blast.
After doing 6 runs over the 1/4 mile, I had a pretty consistant 8.3 for the 1/8, so set that as my dial time.
Last run for the night I had to run an XU1 torana.
His time was set at 10.00 and as I said, mine was set at 8.3.
Watching him take off and leave before my light had even started was not easy, but I managed.
I pulled a 0.036 reaction time to his .104
I tried to stay calm with smooth gear shifts and keeping of the limiter.
And could see I was slowly reeling him in, but I could also see the finish line approaching.

In the end it was like this.

Me ______________ him
.036_____ r/t _____ .104
2.037 ___ 60ft ____ 2.304
8.306 ___ 1/8 ____ 10.375
88.23 ___ mph _____ 59.42

Which made it a win for me

I think I am hooked.

Sounds like a lot of fun. It's hard to watch the other lane take off and have to wait.

DYO is certainly fun, it adds another great dimension to drag racing. I managed to pickup a trophy years ago at an LS1 meet at Heathcote with a 13.8 1/4 against a 10 second Ute, boy he came up in the mirrors fast! He would have just pipped me if he hadn't missed grabbing third :D

Most fun I have had has been drag racing. Done road course which was great but there's something about the whole drag race thing that's been in my blood since high school.

Me too, it started at the red lights on the main "Sherbrooke" street of Montreal when I was a post-graduated student at the university and driving my MGA daily.

Yes, it is fun, I remember a 9-10s car with slicks that needed to use its nitrous trying not to loose against my Cobra in road configuration. He almost lost the control of its car and I had to move to the extreme right of the right line not to be hit by him.

You know I don't know that you got that right. I watched it from start to finish and there was only 1 car that WASN'T a front engined dragster   :D
