Help needed - screen rake measurements for hardtop

Next week sees me finally getting into the workshop to play with the DB Hardtop and start looking at how to best extend it for my car and also cater for other Cobra kits when the mould is taken.

We know it needs lengthening by about 70mm for a Harrison kit. While there are other vital measurements to consider, I'm particularly interested in the range of hardtop "lengths" that we may need to cater for.

This is where I need your help. Eg, how long is yours? :JEKYLHYDE

The diagram below from Dave at DB Replicas shows the distance from the hardtop opening behind the door to two points on the windscreen when the DB hardtop is fitted to one of his cars.

For those who can spare the time, could you please measure the upper/lower distance and let me know which kit you have? It's also good to know if you have a lengthened body as is common with a few Harrisons, etc.

Here's an actual photo in case the diagram is unclear.

Thanks in advance

Are we measuring from corner of door opening (on body) to edge of screen frame (or centre line of screen frame)

Good question, I would say edge of frame as that's where the red arrow stops in the close-up.

Sambo

I have measured my screen and the drivers side is 825mm across the door and the screen is 695mm the passengers side is 825mm across the door and the screen is 700mm, my screen has a 5mm twist. The boot is only 785mm across.
So for my CR the top need to be 55mm longer, and the top will need to be a little higher.

Paul

Harrison's #62 (standard length):
Drivers side: 735 and 835mm
Passengers side: 730 and 832mm

It will be interesting to see the variation in the Harrisons, let alone other kits.

Cheers

My CR (Square tube chassis) is 840mm accross the bottom and 715 from door to windscreen edge at bolt.
I guess Alffie has laid his screen back further than I did with mine.

Mine is 820mm horizontal from rear of screen post to door opening, and 685mm from door opening to first screen screw in side post.

Note: From rear of screen post to edge of door opening is 70mm approx. Some screen bases may be moved a bit further back/forward to allow for difference in body curvature and fit of screen..

I am a little surprised the roof needs to be extended by so much. Is a Dax smaller then your average cobra?

Where are you planning to cut and extend? It's going to take a bit of work to maintain a natural smooth curve, but in sure your up to it sambo. Are you planning to just turn #1 into a plug for you mold, mite be the best way to get that smooth curve without worrying about keeping that first one usable.

Cheers

Andrew, not exactly sure about the Dax but it does appear that most of our kits are longer in that area. And no, fibreglass is not my forte, I'm leaving that to the pros! Just managing the project if you like.

Paul, mine is an extended body Harrison, if you still need the measurements I can do it. Geof and Geoff (above) seem to have the standard measurements that you need.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to help. I'll post some better photos next week and there should also be some video action after I've bled the clutch and brakes in readiness for the first drive.

My Factory Five Mk3.1 is 800mm on the flat measurement and 685 on the angle measurement to the beginning of the windscreen, not the center of the screw.
