Umm
1998 5.0L Red upholstery 23000k $100k??

Not too sure about the price, Robnell will help it, but not as much as Robnell with bigblock.

Fair question...

It's probably no more special than any other car, but some might like;
Legal side pipes,
Legal No side indicators,
Legal & complied SBF (363 looks just like a 302  good for 500 horses),
Kevlar body,
Arguably best looking body, it's a debatable point, but I like 'em,
True knock off wheels, mind you, these appear to be 17s (perhaps a plus for some).

...and they fit my a$$ in them nice and comfortably, without that slightly side on feel you get in some replicas, where the seat line is facing slightly outward, and the steering wheel is a tad too far inward, & the pedals aren't cramped into the foot box, nearly as tightly as some other kits.

Robnells were definitely a premium kit in my humble opinion.

Here is a better link, had to cut out the messy stuff in the url line:

Used Cobra Replica Robnell, For Sale, South Yarra, 1998 Cobra Replica Robnell

Side Pipes are not legal on this one, but if it was prior to 1st July 1988 they could be.

And it should have side indicators, build date is late enough for them.

The later Robnell's are very nice. Once they corrected the front end geometry and stopped using the Jag rear.

Would be much more desirable if it had a big block.

Robnell body shape seems to be fairly accurate, I've measured them extensively(helps that we have one here in the shop). They are a close replica of a 427 street body with SC flares, filler etc added. In my opinion the most accurate body shape of all Australian made Cobra kits. Both chassis, body design etc come directly from the UK Ram. Just wish Robnell had stuck with using round tube on the chassis.

Nice find Dimis, cheers.

Nicely built car Craig, even after all this time. And for $80,000 an earlier one, as you describe:

I know that I would be looking at if I was starting now.

400TT 04-14-2011 04:14 AM

Thanks Merv, saw that one. Interesting it now has a 351 in it, it would have been complied with a 302c.

Be interesting to see the condition of it, it's old enough to require a full going over and freshen up.

Just been sorting out my compliance documents as I am unfortunately overloaded with them on my notebook. :(

Anyway, saw my exhaust stuff and checked the date that effectively stopped side pipes(left hand exhaust). 1 July 1988. So if a Robnell is early enough and the side pipes meet all the other requirements they should be legal.

I have corrected the above incorrect statement I made about side pipes.

Also the one Merv posted about could have legal pipes.

Back to work now. :)

Hi there...

Were would be the best place to confirm the legality of the pipes? Somewhere on the RTA website?

HSVREDSLED 04-20-2011 12:30 AM

Im after some more pros and cons of Robnells.

Im seriously looking at a NSW registered turn key. Not interested in a build.

What are the common opinions on Robnells?

Cheers...

Dimis 04-20-2011 01:51 AM

Robnells were top-shelf...

My research has lead me to understand that there are some 80-90 odd cars and the better handeling Robnells were the later builds with the common-whore, Ooops... I mean commodore rear ends.

The chassis geometry changed over time, including the front end to accommodate the larger 4.6lt ford engines. I think this happen near chassis 40-50odd.

Others are probably better placed to give more accurate details, of build numbers, chassis, engines, and changes etc...

A Robnell was one of 2 options I was seriously considering flogging off my hard earned cash... Until option 3 conveniently came up...

If it were me and money was no object - I'd look for:

1) a Big block 385 Robnell and re-furb.
or
2) a 4.6lt and re-do the motor to a coyote 5lt (same dimensions).
or
3) Stroke the crap out of a windsor... I hear whispers there are some 408 Robnells running around

Either way each to theirhis own, but as far as I'm concerned, is a good call. Even the bad ones are good! Its all relative.

One with an LS1 in it as well ;)http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...d=4785&thumb=1 http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...d=4784&thumb=1:eek:

Merv and Sharon 04-20-2011 03:51 PM

LS1? Now that is sacrilege! There have been a few recent posts on these. Local one is 8.5 litres.

He he! Yeah Merv It is in some respects, but thanks to our current regs it was the obvious choice for emissions and due to its weight and dimensions it fitted in the bay extremely well. I have an early chassis so that would have meant some surgery to fit the 5.4 in. If it makes you feel any better I had a 429 cobrajet fitted in for a short time but to get it to pass rego was not an option... Now that the LS is in,(as hard as it is to say) I'm very pleased with the end result and its now too hard to turn back for the sake of a brand name. Next step LS7... The car is made up of parts from just about every major motor car maker on the planet... E.G jaguar (diff & suspension), mazda (power steering rack), toyota (EHPS), Mercedes (rack ends), GM (Engine)... Someone said to me the other day...Do you have ANY ford parts on the car? Yes, I replied with a smile.. It has a handbrake from an escort:LOL: Not sure about the tremec, I guess you could consider it ford !;) By the way, I've been too scared to ask Rob what he thinks of me putting a chev in to his creation, but thats what I hear Richards gonna do if he starts producing them again.. Got that news first hand!

Merv and Sharon 04-21-2011 01:09 AM

Great car Kyle! Good buy too

kyleb 04-21-2011 01:25 AM

Thanks Merv, Got it as a bare chassis, and the body, well lets say it needed a hell of a lot of hrs spent on it to get it to what you see.. A good buy for what I got !!! maybe...Probably could have bought a different make body and chassis for similar $$.. Been chatting to Rob I gather:LOL:

Merv and Sharon 04-21-2011 01:59 AM

Rob has offered anyone who wants to do the time to interview him to start to do a history of Robnell. The ones I have seen are well made and last the distance.

kyleb 04-21-2011 02:12 AM

Would be well worth doing ! I stand in awe of someone who has the drive, intelligence and insight to be able to undertake and achieve what he and others like him have done.. I also was impressed with the build quality of these cars, especially the later models.. Prior to this build i must admit i did'nt know a lot about cobras in general. Now they are going to have to pry the steering wheel from my cold dead hands !!!!:D

As PAPABILL said, it is on Connect Set. It sounded like a studio version when I listened to it, so that might be your ticket.
