Anyone had injectors flow tested?
Out of interest, has anyone had their injectors on a flow bench? Who did it for you, and what did it cost?

yes, about 7 years ago I had the injectors in my LS1 removed, cleaned and tested. Service was mobile, and about $200 from memory. Sorry can't remember who did it!

You can do this yourself Craig
750HP Craig check out one of the magizines from the last couple of months. They tell you how to clean injectors and read their rate. I am sorry for not knowing witch mag. I have thousands of them with articles. It's new in maybe the last 6 months. Try Hot Rod, Car Craft, and hit the Fast Ford and Mustang. The cost for building the kit is about $100.00 with pump fluid, trigger to setoff the injector. They sell and injector tester for GM cars that will pulsate the injector for 10-15 second You measure the flow in a testtube and get your number. Be careful with injector cleaners. Some will kill the wiring in the injector. What style is the injectors you are running, and pound readings? Big ones use low ohms and are hard on injector drivers in the ECU. There is a test for check the resistance of the injector by running it to get hot. Rick L.

Craig, all the shops and mobile guys that clean injectors can flow test them. They "should" flow test all injectors when cleaning to verify their operation and performance.
So plenty of people around, haven't flow tested injectors separately but it should be quite cheap as it is very quick for them to do. |
Craig, got mine done about 3 years ago, $30 each...... mobile guy, came around to my place in brissie and yes he flow tested them to make sure they all flowed the same cc's.

Rick, I'd really like a full test on the bench, ramping through pulse width then through fuel pressure ranges, rather than simply measuring flow. Running 2 injectors per cylinder on a big cube, big boost supercharged deal. Low impedance with EV1 connectors: 8 x 1000cc for the majority of the time 8 x 1600cc for when the wind starts to blow and the floodgates need to open. Boost referenced fuel pressure under load will be around 70psi, so I need to make sure the injectors are matched at that pressure as well as the default 43.5psi. I'll make some phone calls and see what the going rate is these days. Cheers, |

Yes, I had mine done by a mobile guy in Pakenham. Sorry I dont have his number but you should be able to negotiate a good price if you have already taken them off the fuel rail. You might get a real good price if you offer to take the injectors and leave them at their house for a couple of days. Once the injectors are out they just pop them in the machine. it only takes a minite and can usually do 4 or 6 at one time.

Craig, we tested the Rochester units for the 4-cyl Multec/TBI (OPEL) with an actuator box.
You should be able to make it yourself. Do multiple shots for more accuracy. Later I changed the layout and used a TBI with pressurized fuel. You want to make sure they operate properly under higher pressure (above the designed value of 3(?)bar. I forgot, used to write the trouble shooting manuals until 1995. Rochester back then (1989+) supplied a fancy fuel replacement liquid. You know that there is a limit to opening time (total) and minimum. They do need to ramp up and close too. The danger is that at idle with higher pressure you may run rich. |

Dominik - I've seen the spray pattern of the Bosch injectors at 4 bar and they were holding up OK. Ideally, I'd prefer to use just one set of 8 new big $$$ Moran 2200cc injectors rather than a dual injector deal, but my money tree isn't growing that quickly! |
