The new Darwin Dragstrip
Went to the first of two nights of the drags last night on the new (4.6 million spent) drag strip.
8 or 9 door slammers in attendance.......awesome. John Zappia came out late in the night and set a track record at 5.936 on his first run......385klmph, taking 0.3 of the previous record. It boasts the flattest track in the southern hemisphere. Looking forward to seeing a top fuel dragster here. And it was a freezing Darwin winter night - down to 17 degrees...brrrr Competition night tonight.......I love the smell of methanol in the evening. Have ear muffs |
Hi Hogster
It was a good night we are sure to see more 5 sec passes tonight!!! Hows the cobra going? |
Sent you a PM. Might see you there.
Cheers. |
Is the strip government or privately funded - or combination..
Sounds like a good strip.. |
Last night at the drags they were saying Federal and NT Government funding. I know from some of my friends that the NT Govt had pledged to spend the money before an election a long time ago, and finally made good.
|
In my neck of police state NSW two local motoring clubs (Newcastle & Central Coast) tried to build motorsport complexes... you know race, drag, hill climb etc.. Both knocked back due to trivial excuses. The result of "not in my back yard" whiners. Then every year when the new 'P' platers start killing themselves off they all cry something should be done ! So the RTA attacks the cars not the drivers.
Enjoy all that motoring freedom up there ! |
