675 the number of the beast ?

Today I got the NSW rego papers.
Registration fee.......................... $ 57.00
Motor Vehicle Tax........................$ 256.00
Compulsory Third Party Insurance...$ 362.00

Total.........................................$ 675.00

Plus a small charge for having personal number plates..$ 90.00
For the permission to drive my car I paid $765.00 this year.
On the bright side it's only $ 14.00 a week (plus fuel) ha ha.

What do other states pay for the privilege. ?

Rego with CTP is about $650 in Vic, personalised plates are a once off cost, with cost varying depending on style of plate, number of letters etc, Vplates.com.au - Custom Plates by VicRoads | - Vplates Home

You guys are lucky $1065.00 or around this for 12 months in QLD

$635 for a 4 cylinder car in QLD with Compulsory Third Party insurance ($307).

As said, is over $1000 for the Cobra.

No ongoing charge for the personalised plates

Thats interesting, i didnt realise that other states dont charge annual fee for plates.

Plates that dont follow the standard format are around $400 per year in NSW! Its the biggest rort. Once they are made there is nothing different so i dont see how they justify this cost.

in Vic the rego doesn't change based on the vehicle either (if it's classified as a car, not light truck etc). So a V8 Cobra is the same cost as a Mazda 121

In the NT the number of cylinders will alter the price, Cobra is $735 for the year, no ongoing costs for personal plates.

It seems rego rules and costs are similar to the ICV registration process. I am sometimes surprised we don't have to hand over passports as we cross the border!

Over here in WA my Commodore costs $496 a year made up of $213 license fee, insurance on license, stamp duty, recording fee and finally GST.

As for private plates, I got mine back in '87 and cost $60. Only other charges are transfer fees to different vehicles over the years.

Yeah when I was told it would cost 100 bucks EVERY year I asked if someone comes around and polishes the plate....got a blank look. The RTA also stated that they would cut the costs on private plates and change the billing....apparently they did. Instead of $100.00 I now only pay $90.00 bucks a year.....man am I grateful. By the way my plates were in the current numerals at the time. standard black and white... ASP 427. BUT they were "requested" so that made them 'personalised' so I have to pay.
