LeMans Hard Tops
Hi all, I have had a fair workshop session today and have made some real progress fitting my Mr Bruce midnight special hardtop.
The tops arrived a few weeks ago and we can probably claim that they are some of the most travelled parts to go on a Cobra. They came from Pitsburg PA the back way, via the Suez Canal, India , Korea and finally to Oz. The freight was the right price though (thanks Andy). The tops have been designed to suit an ERA Cobra and it is fair to say an ERA must be perky in the bum compared with a CR. The rear of the top is not sitting as low as I would have liked, but the roof line and door openings are spot on. The side window recesses are going to be removed once I have the mounting hardware completed, and the rear window area will probably be treaked too to make it flow a little better where it meets the boot. The width of the rear hatch opening is spot on with the width of the CR boot so that is a pleasant surprise. I have made up a template for a new roll bar to be made up, given that there is now much less headroom. I still fit under the top with a helmet on, and it is much easier to get in and out of than I thought it would be. Looks great Gav. How are you fixing it to the rear deck?
|
I am going to use soft top furrules behind the doors and on each side of the boot.
It wont come off too often (or at all) so a couple of holes is not going to be an issue. |

I can claim a long traveled bit...I bought a clutch from Summit. They sent the wrong one, I sent it back, they sent the same part back ( I had marked it) Then I sent it back again. About the same distance traveled to the moon! I eventually got the right bit. |
Lookin good Gav

wicked....
|
guess you dunnys will crack a fat once they are all mounted and painted up
|
You are a shocker Bruce.
Hey that was an awesome crate you built, has home depot got any screws left in stock now? |
Very neat Gav. Seems to sit well. Are you really going to leave it on all the time? What wheels are they?
|
How does it line up with the back of the doors? I looks as if the windshield could angle forward a bit giving you more lift in the front & lowering the rear end of the top. The windshield angle looks a "little" extreme from the pictures.
|
The screen is not fixed yet, so once I have fabricated he brackets to secure the roof in place it will all line up. The rear is still going to be high, the choice is to chop up the top or add some material to the rear, I am going with the second option.

The wheels are American racing wheels 'salt flats', I saw them on a pic of a Daytona years ago and loved them. |
Gav
Looks awesome! What are your plans for the rear window? Geof |
Gav, I like your car's matte paint. What color is that?
|
The paint is just dark green 'high fill' primer. It is tempory (it has been on for three years now) until I put the shiney stuff on. It is good in that I have scratched it and stone chipped it but who cares!

We don't get alot of rain here, nor no I access the boot often so as long as it fits flush that is the main thing. |
Looking great Gav - cant wait to get stuck into mine.
