Another Red Cobra.

Another Cobra registered and on the road in Melbourne today. 3 and bit years so not too bad, although I would have said 12 months tops when I first hatched the idea! Thanks to all the guys on this forum both directly, and indirectly thru the "search" function, for all your help. I would not have found Bernie (engineer) if not for this site, and Mike with my gearbox mods. It was a bit "fresh" on the way home, from Vicroads, complete with a rain and hail shower, so I sheltered under a bridge for a while, but that's Melbourne for you. Roll on summer!!:D

You can tell by the photo I've gone for the " In the style of a Cobra" rather than the classic look, but that is what I was aiming for from the start, a 2 seater sports car that goes like stink! You may now call me an impostor and ban me from this site if you want as it's finished!

What a top way to start the weekend. Well done!

The weather should be lovely for a drive, not. :(

OZCOBRA 09-08-2011 11:36 PM

Well done mate!!!!....have a great weekend....You'll have 1000k's on it come Monday morning!!:)

Aussie Mike 09-08-2011 11:45 PM

Well done Peter! Car looks great, you should be proud. I like the idea of the cowl induction scoop.

Go any pics of the wheels?

Did the gearbox run alright on your outing?

Cheers

Michael

Well done & Congratulations...!

You're braver than I taking on today's weather.
I love that red! It looks great even in a photo taken in bad weather.

... but I think you put your hood scoop on back to front :LOL::LOL:
Just kiddin' :p

Neat

Nice car:MECOOL:, now give it some stick, and keep the rubber on the road :D

Merv and Sharon 09-09-2011 12:51 AM

Congratulations! I was down in Melb this week in the Dandenongs and experienced the three seasons in a day but the next day was one of Melbourne's finest Spring days.

The car looks great. What is the bar on the front for? Is that a requirement there? These registrations in SA, QLD and VIC should be putting pressure on the NSW authorities.

gjkrv8 09-09-2011 12:53 AM

Well done Peter, yes the Melb weather was pretty rotten today. Did you paint it yourself? If so well done to you. I wouldnt have the patience myself for all that sanding and filling and sanding and filling and sanding and filling :-) Rgds Gregg

Well done Peter, a great achievement. And a 6.0L Harrison no less. :D

Beejay 09-09-2011 03:30 AM

Well done!

I bet that 6.0L goes well.

Good stuff Peter, bring the beast upto Goulburn, the track will give you a good chance to "open her up"

snakebittexan 09-09-2011 08:06 AM

Beautiful red--everyone knows a red car is faster!

stephen low 09-09-2011 08:30 AM

Very well done Mr Eater

Interested to note that three wipers seems to be needed.

I thought the requirement had been recinded, or is it simply a case that three is needed to achieve the sweep required?

How is Bernie these days? I found him immensely practical and quite open to taking calls and giving advice on engineering issues.

sambo 09-09-2011 10:36 AM

Slowly, give a little take a little. Swept area is the main concern and three wipers invite fewer questions.

Thanks guys for the good wishes! I haven't driven it since I got home, the weather is cr*p, we've had some great weekends recently, but not this one. Mike! the gear box is great, I worked that out on my 300km of "speedo calibration " runs with the permit. So much better than the T56 in my commodore, which feels like remote control.

The wheels are 9" & 10" X 18" with Yokohama advan neova which are between a semi-slick and road rubber, not too bad in the wet as I found out. RE the scoop: I noticed at Shelby fest and the Nationals that lot of guys were running with the bonnet open to aid cooling, I decided as the cold air intake is under the radiator, it would be better to let hot air out, than to increase pressure under the bonnet, there should also be a "Venturi effect" to suck air out in theory. Merv, I needed somewhere to hang the number plate, and a front bumper seemed like a good spot, there is one on the rear as well. Not a classic look but functional. Dimis & Gregg I painted it myself so it looks better when wet! It would probably feel at home in California, as that's where they grow all the oranges!! I did not want to spend big bucks on paint as my son and I will be doing "track days" when it's "run in" and the asthmatic rego exhaust is replaced, odds on if it had a $M paint job one of us would prang it. It's got twice the power, but the same weight as our current Nissan so should be a hand full. I've played with acrylic paint in the past but this is two pack, thats my excuse anyway.RE: the colour it's "sting red" a VE Holden colour.
Re: the wipers, as I had 3, Bernie didn't even test them for coverage (But I did on the way home) Yes, Bernie is very easy to get on with. I have recommended him to others.
