So in summary, in most states they are now legal but they would need to be so choked to make the existing dBA requirements, that an underbody system would be more efficient?

I'm pretty sure it's only 20m Dave, but the start is from the front of the car, and the finish is at the back. This makes the test 20m +vehicle length.

And I thought the Vic test was tough! Car is stationary and running at 2/3 of redline (no load) with the mic setup 1m away at a 45 degree angle to the tail pipe. Must be under 90db.

The test you mentioned is the static test, the dynamic test is the one Suthol described. I'm not entirely clear, but I THINK that if you fail the static test you can do the dynamic test. Will check later. Treeve |

So......
the scenario thus: I've just connected my previously non working sidepipes to my recently Qld registered car and Constable Plod pulls me over for whatever reason, what's the sidepipe legality? (i have no idea what dB they are and no heatshields) Is the answer the same if the occifer was from the QLD or NSW constabulatory ? |
You will need to talk to Qld transport. If there is now a method to run live side pipes they will require you to go through the process. I would guess, noise and emission testing along with heat shields etc. They would then issue you with a mod plate or exemption to show the fun police of any state or territory.
