Waring Lights for Orphan

I am starting to get all the components ready to wire the Orphan.

I understand you need to have, a seat belt warning light and a break fail warning light.

The Seat Belt Waring light.
I am not sure what the ADR requires but I assumed you need warning light with a seat belt symbol that comes on when the ignition is first turned on.

So, then when a seat belt in the drivers seat is buckled is that when it turns off,or is a timer employed?

I will contact Klippan and see if they have a stalk that has the switch.

The Brake Fail Warning Light.
Can the hand brake and brake fail light be the same light?
Looking at our boring cars I notice that is how they are. I have the float switches on the master cylinders and a hand brake switch. If i connect these two switches to the Brake waring light on the dash will that satisfy the ADR.

Looking for guidance here.

The seat belt light must display a seat belt symbol. Must come on with ignition and switch off after time 11 seconds I think) or switch off when stalk plugged in.

I am pretty sure that the hand brake light needs to be seperate from fluid warning light, but could be wrong.

Have you checked ADR's or checked with engineer?

Dave,
I will ask the engineer, however I thought it would make a good conversation.

Phil,

ADR 69 for the requirements for the seat belt warning light, and 31 for the brake stuff. Both are reasonably easy to find within the documents because they have included the pictures of what is required in the text. Skip through until you find the pictures and you should be able to find the bits you need.

Phil, as Treeve said just have a quick look at the ADR's for specifics.

I will just add that it is much easier to just use a timer for the seatbelt light, simple and effective. Much easier than mucking about with a switch on buckle.

You can share the same warning light for brake fail & handbrake.

Thanks Treeve,

I have read thru ADR 31 and paragraph 5.2.3 on brake warnings simply describes what is needed. In summary the "handbrake" and "Brake Fail" can be the same light. The use of fluid level switches in the master cylinder reservoirs is permitted and there is no mention of a timed signal showing when ignition is turned on.

The seat belt must stay on for 4 seconds after ignition is turned on or when seat buckle is attached.

All good.

Attaboy. Teach a man to fish and he'll sit in a tinny drinking beer all day.

At least I think that's how it goes.... :)

My brake fail and hand brake have separate warning lamps, the brake fail operates on a timer when the ignition is turned on and float switches in the master cylinders will energise the same lamp should the fluid level drop.

Phil

Dons got the timers:

Seat Belt Warning Light Timer [CLT06] - $51.00 : Snake Bite: Cobra Parts & Accessories for your AC Cobra 427, Cobra Kit, Ford/Shelby Cobra, Cobra Replica, Cobra Kit Car

For the dash light I just took a blank red warning lamp down to my local Mr Minit with a pic of the seatbelt symbol and he engraved it into the plastic. Then a dab with white paint and a wipe with turps and there you have it!!

Thanks Guys,
I will go the timer route.

Craig, I didn't see your post before I my last post.
