Pebble Beach 2012
Guy's,
Very exciting news came through this week, Confirmation of my accommodation and more importantly 2 tickets to the Sunday Concours d'Elegance ( Club d'Elegance area )......:3DSMILE::3DSMILE::3DSMILE: All I need now is a couple of tickets to the Quail Picnic on the Friday and my week will be complete. This event is restricted to 3000 tickets and a computer generated lottery system is used, its drawn on the 6th February. The AC/Shelby cars are a special interest at the show with a Cobra event at Laguna Seca on Friday/Saturday/Sunday. As most of you know I love to take pictures so this event will be more of the same :LOL: STIFFY |
Have you ever been before, that area of the USA is one of the most beutiful places we have to offer, I played golf there at Pebble before.

Pb 2012
Hi FR65,
No it will be my first trip to the area. I dont play golf but love the 19the hole :3DSMILE: STIFFY |
I plan to be at Laguna Seca. You are very lucky with the invite to the Concours. Lovely area. Hire a car and drive up the coast too.
|
The Carmel Valley is awesome, ecpecially with all those cars, its gonna be a trip of a lifetime, your gonna have fun.
|
This will be my (and my family's) first trip to Pebble Beach / Monterey. I think I am going to skip the Sunday show, but between the races, auctions, and other non-Concours events, it seems like there'll be lots to do.
Is there any hesitation just booking a room in Monterey or one of the towns a few miles up or down the road? I'm thinking that you get yourself in the general area and it should be fairly easy to get around, but who knows? |
When I was there the whole area is pretty easy to get around, plus there are only going to be 5000 people or so due to the limited number of tickets, during US Open golf week they get over 100,000 with the fans and media etc, plus all the lodging around there is top notch, its an expensive area.

Accommodation
hey Benzito,
Accommodation is the killer, I was on 25 Hotel waiting lists :mad: Its expensive and difficult to get a room. You can stay further out but the traffic is terrible and the cheaper suburbs ( over an hour away ) are a bit dodgy...:p:p I am staying for the week and want to see as much as possiblea sI will most likely only be there once. I dont want to drive anywhere as I would like to sample as much of the wine/beer as possible :) in keeping up with the Aussue tradition..... Stiffy |
That sounds like a good plan.
My tentative plan is to stay in Monterey (I've got a reservation on lock). Nothing fancy, but close in. We're only going to be there for the cars for three or four days, then we are heading to Santa Cruz for one day on our way home. Should be crazy, but fun! |

Aside from getting in and out of Laguna Seca, getting around during all of the events isn't that bad. If you have time, go check out some of the auctions. The Mecum auction at Del Monte is no charge and the parking is free (you park right on the fairway). |

stiffy - I went last year and gave you most of my thoughts in my reply to your PM. If others are interested here are some comments.
The Automobillia show was a total waste of time. Fairly small and nothing exceptional except the ridiculous prices being asked. Laguna Seca. All cars practice on the Thursday/Friday and half race twice on the Saturday and the other half race twice on the Sunday. The feature marque will race on the Saturday as it leaves them free for Pebble Beach on the Sunday. Although I went specifically to see the 250 GTOs, the Trans-Am and Can-Am racing was sensational. No parking or crowd issues and free access to the paddock area included in your ticket. Pebble Beach. Following great advice I got there at dawn and wandered through the transporters area and watch the cars being unloaded. The owners (even Jay Leno) were very friendly and more than happy to talk to 'an Aussie'. There was hardly anyone around at that time but by 11.00am I had seen everything twice and you could hardly move so I went back to Laguna Seca to see the afternoon races. |
Very, very cool Stiff!

Monterey is absolutely beautiful. Stayed at a really nice hotel a few years ago, (will try to remember name) and last October stayed here at Santa Cruz Dream Inn, a Joie de Vivre hotel - Reviews - Santa Cruz Hotels - TripAdvisor
Right on the sand, near the pier, food brilliant!!!! If it was my trip (and not doing other travelling) I would fly into San Fran, head to Monetery, then when done, drive down Big Sur, maybe stay at Pismo Beach or similar, then to LA then home. |
Quail Tickets
Guy's,
Great news :3DSMILE::3DSMILE::3DSMILE: I have just been notified that my computer generated tickets to the event have been confirmed. :o This has finalised the last hard to get event for the week. A link to the event, Quail Lodge Events Home STIFFY |
Sweet, I just watched the American Pga golfers tour which was held at Pebble Beach golf links, it was so amazing to see the course in Hi def and watch Tiger Woods get his a s s handed to him, now all those cars will be gracing the fairway, it should be the time of your life.

Cobras, Daytonas, and GT40s will be doing daily caravans down to Monterey, Laguna Seca, Carmel. Anybody going to the show and has decent camera skills? Sell me your footage!
Dont need to be a pro, just able to keep things in focus and not be looking at the sky while filming a car! lol
PM, me and lets see if you can get some cash for something you were probably planning on doing anyway! :) |
