No more side pipe burns
Not long finished making these side pipes and it seems I have had reasonable success with them not getting hot enough to burn.
They are made from stainless to the same dimensions as the Robnell pipes.. Internals have a cat at the front with a magnaflow muffler all welded together to form the working part of the pipe. The machined ends are added, slip over a 5" sleeve with Kevlar in between to stop the transfer of heat and there you have it. Seems to work well. I can hold my hand on the pipe whilst driving and when stopped it's no problem but does heat soak after a while due to the heat retension of the stainless but not enough to burn, only gives you a scare.http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...d=6962&thumb=1 |

Great job on the pipes. The look the part and to be able to keep them cool is fantastic. What do you reckon the noise level would be? With the recent suggestions that live pipes can be used, you could be onto a winner here. Geof |

Noise levels are quite good until you really step into it then it barks. I will grab the sound meter this week and get an idea of what the actual figure is.. |

Thanks Mike, I had forgotten all about this.
I have since added a blower and cam etc so I should test it again, but prior to doing all this I grabbed a sound meter and was getting around 100db at 4000rpm. I think it's a good result with the limited pipe length that you have to work with.. If I was to do it again I probably wouldn't use stainless for the internals therefore you would possibly get even less heat transfer whilst stationary.. |
I meant to add..
To get it to 87db (new vehicle standard) I reckon would be near impossible. But with some supertrapp internals as well I reckon you could get to a point where the authorities here would not be too concerned.. Thoughts!!!! |
