Inner guards/shields - front?
4 Attachment(s)
My first GTO kit came with separate fibreglass inner front guards/shields - to be use in addition to the inner guards of the 240Z unibody. They are an appalling fit and few builders have bothered to fit them. My new kit does not have them.
I've searched Google images to find how the Cobra kit inner guards are constructed but haven't had any luck so a couple of questions if I may. 1. How are the Cobra inner guards/shields constructed (photos please), and 2. Do I really need to fabricate inner guards/shields to protect the headlights buckets from road debris and/or muck building up around the doorframe/firewall join area, and if so, some design ideas, thanks? |
Peter I doubt any Cobra has an inner guard. Some have glued wet suit rubber up there to stop "stars" from appearing on the outside of the guard from tyre thrown rocks.
I've used Ute liner sprayed under my guards and in the rear where the body had a gap inside the wheel arch I've used some ABS plastic sheet. It's about 3mm thick and attached with small button head bolts (4mm) screwed into the chassis. Most plastics/perspex places can supply the abs sheet. |
Most use a headlight bucket for the headlights.
The inner guard protection I used was similar to the wet suit idea. Just an adhesive light rubber. The bodies usually have the guard and inner guards moulded as one. Take a look at a few bodies in kit form and you will see the inner panel between the engine, upper suspension and guard - all in one. Footwells are separately moulded in. |

Thanks, that's exactly the information I was seeking. |
there's a video I posted below, not specifically about the guards but you can see them in several bits of the video. The inner guards are bonded to the main body on the CR build;
