Chassis nearly done!

Hi All,

Called in to Classic Revival yesterday to check out the progress on my Cobra kit. The Chassis is on the rotisserie (sp) recieving final welding and it's looking good too! It's a good feeling to see your car starting to take shape and makes the waiting a bit easier to bear. Looks like I'm still on target to have it home the end of next month... Woo Hoo!

Mike, did you take any pics when you went up to see Ian of your chasis. Whats it looking like? Can you post them for us too have a squiz?

Here is a shot of the chassis on the rotisserie. That seriously huge slab of steel in the background is the jig. Everything is very accurately put together and virtually all of the brackets are lazer cut for consistency and a clean tidy finish. I like to check out how things are put together so I can judge the quality of welding and construction etc and I can't fault what Ian has built. It was good to check out the chassis before any grinding/clean up or paint hides any sins but there were no sins to hide.

Mike, holly snapping dogs poop thats is one thick chasis. Actually that is probably the most detailed photo i have seen of his chasis so far. You are right it looks like that until you see it up close you dont appreciate the amount of steel involved. Those main rails look absolutely huge. Its no wonder he gets such high results for the torsional rigidity. Do you think there is such a thing as being too rigid though?. It looks pretty impressive any way I should be getting over there next month to inspect the build quality of his bodies and chasis maybe your chasis and body will still be there?
Actually the more I think about it the more astounded I am about how light his cars are.................

I should be working in sales here... I've just read some of my posts again and I'm sounding like a bit of a Classic Revival fanatic. Definitely get some other opinions on the Cobras out there as well as the CR. I'm probably not that objective now :3DSMILE:

The tube is 4"x4" high tensile steel so desn't need to be as thick walled for the same strength. It appears bigger than most chassis because it's square rather than round like the originals but it probably it does't take up much more under floor space than the original. I think the perspective on the shot makes the rails look bigger too. Weight is saved with the High tensile tube and the light weight yet super strong composite body shell.

Don't know about "too rigid". I figure if your chassis doesn't flex it means your suspension is going to have a better chance of controlling the whole plot.

Definitely go and see Ian, He's a nice bloke and justifiably proud of his product. He's always been happy to talk to me and I'm sure I must drive most people up the wall with my constant questions.
