NSW moving again
 

G'day all,

I know that Nemo by not being a Cobra really doesn't belong on this forum but as of 17:00 yesterday afternoon he wears NSW plates rather than Vic club plates.

The process was quite painless, I submitted my engineers report on the Monday before Christmas and had an inspection at Silverwater on 25/01.

Sadly they gave me some homework to do and to be honest most of it was justified even if a bit petty, having fixed the 14 items and had my engineers certificate amended to reflect the changes I sent an email with photos of my remedial work and resubmitted the report on 26/03.

I received an email from the RMS on 27/03 stating that they had the new report and were working through it and so began the wait.

After a couple of weeks of silence I sent another email requesting an update which drew an almost immediate phone call saying that my VIN had been FAX'd to the AUVIS station on 1/05.

The steps from there on Thursday were to affix the VIN to a chassis rail, get the first page of my report amended to reflect the VIN, get a Green Slip, a new Blue Slip and off to the RMS.

The story still hadn't ended because the Green Slip had a typo in the VIN and I had to do a Stat Dec stating that I had built the car from scratch.

Back to the RMS late yesterday and job done in about 15 minutes. :3DSMILE:

Now all you NSW guys who have been holding off, get your fingers out of ya dates.

I'd still love to scratch build one of these with my youngest bloke but yes other toys and just plain old getting my own cobra back on the road must take precedence for now.

The sevens are a great car though and turbo'd up or running a V8 would really be a blast!

Nah mate have driven nearly 100K kms in the BF without any issues since the cobra dramas!

Thankfully too it was only a tiny pedestrian traffic light pole else the damage would have been far worse. The pole sort of moved and at least there weren't any Peds at the lights either.

And it was only 2 fishtails off the intersection so 50 metres - my how events grow with the passage of time. Still think I touched a pedal on the way out to further upset the car.

Anyway the B's dug up the roundabout since and it is now a standard traffic light set crossroad.

But something to think about when I can get my feet into the footwell for real, so yes the focus is to get the car up and running. Sitting in Marty's mausoleum at present though.

Congratulations Dave. 10+ years in the making must have been a great sense of achievement. Most of us here don't care about what the car is. We love the fun of tinkering. Throw up some pics of the build.

The build commenced in earnest in 2001 and the car was on the road in late 2009 and registered rather recently as per this thread.

It was slow because it was a hobby and I spend roughly 3 months a year interstate and for the last far too many years been heavily involved in cricket so coming home and waving to the minister for war and finance after she'd sat at home alone all week and saying I'm off to the shed just didn't cut it hence the very slow build.

I designed and built from scratch and being a humble telephone technician getting into the shed and getting dirty was like being on holiday :3DSMILE:

A scratch build is really an achievement

Pre Cobra I intended to build a clubbie (a Birkin) but when I told my younger brother he had a laugh and said "can you imagine how silly a fat old fart like you will look climbing in and out of a Clubman" and so shamed me out of that project which I still regret at times, mind you going on a diet may have been the cheaper option.

You've been on this forum for some time now working towards NSW rego and deserve your spot and like others I'm glad you made your Photobucket pics available to us.

I will be of retirement age next year and am going to do just that and within the ozclubbies fraternity there are a number who are over 70 one of whom has just started a new scratch build ( about No. 6 in not too many years ).

For the rest of you out there, Dave's car was probably longer in registration than actual building. He got his plates a few days before I got my clubbie into the country. I now have to go through the long registration process in NSW, but since I have a UK car with a V8, it will need a lot of work before it's ready!

Hi Dave,

Congratulations. It has taken a long time, but like my experience, perseverence pays off. Things appeared to have improved since a certain manager was removed from his position with the RMS. To some extent, sanity now appears to reign in the ICV department.

Congrats again and enjoy the drive. When the weather fines up a bit, drop around to my place and give us a sqizz at Nemo. I'd love to see it.

I will drop around some time between now and the end of the long weekend if the rain does the right thing.

As for things moving, I got an email from another Cobra guy that I work with who got his VIN yesterday so another one is not far away at all.

This must surely give hope to all the NSW builders who had fallen into despair.
