Draining coolant?
I made a cock-up, or rather I failed with a cock-down. I had a beautiful PWR radiator made but forgot to include a drain cock. The only way I can see to drain the coolant is to detach the lower hose and hope I positioned the bucket in the right place.
Any suggestion how I can do this without making a mess? I'll have a drain cock fitting welded in when I get the radiator out if that's the way to go. Damn... |
Bit hard to avoid the mess now, decide where to fit the draincock, rinse everything off well after the radiator comes out.

Leave the radiator cap on. Drape an old towel over the bottom hose connection. Pinch it closed around the hose with a peg to make a sort of funnel then pull the hose off the radiator neck. Make sure that a part of the towel covers the neck as well. The towel will get soaked and the water will flow down the towel into the bucket or whatever. When the initial flow has slowed remove the cap.

even having a petcock on my radiator, i still drain with the lower hose, its actually not as messy as using the drain and i can drain quicker.
just loosen the clamp slightly and break the seal of the hose, you'll find you can direct and control how much fluid escapes, a cat litter pan works well for draining |
OR-
split the lower hose at a convenient place, then splice it with a steel tube of the right OD with a petcock tapped into it. Drain from the lowest point and don't have to mess your new rad. |

With a utility knife, cut a slice in the lowest portion of the lower radiator hose. Squeezing the hose will make it fairly easy to regulate the flow.

i blame the guys who build the radiators they should be smart enough to ask you 20 questions when u ask them to build u a radiator as they should be smart enough since they build these things every day 99% of businesses dont think |
