CSX2300. Allen Grant was the unlucky driver. Dave Friedman was the lucky photographer :-)

I wonder if carroll is in the photo
|
Could you imagine the conversations going on, and the thoughts of everyone in the picture.
I bet one of them is thinking "Oh Fark, I hope Mr Shelby doesnt find out" |
Here is the story, below the pictures, from the Registry.

Well kids being kids and the circus was a big deal then so Tricia goes of course hoping that her father won't find out. Well she was looking at the monkeys and one of the trainers came out along with the photographer from the Hay local paper-as luck would have ( or otherwise ! LOL) the snapper asked the trainer if Tricia could hold the monkey as 'it would make a great photo for the paper' Well what would you do, being a kid an all ?! Anyway Tricia goes home and at tea that night Tricia's father asks if she did what she was told and NOT go to the circus-'No Dad you told me not to go' Well at breakfast the next morning here's a picture on the front page of the Hay paper with Tricia holding the monkey ! Peter, Tricia's father made a great display of reading the paper and reading out loud all sorts of stuff making sure that the front page was always facing Tricia ! To his credit he never said a word about the picture of Tricia, when he was finished with the paper he put it down on the table front page up and said to Thelma his wife-Did you see the picture of the money on the front page !! And then went to work !! It Happens !! |
Allen was the guest speaker at the London Cobra Show this year. As he told the story, the ramps were steep enough that you had to carry some speed to get up. He realized he didn't have enough speed so he goosed the throttle, which caused a piece of the ramp to fly out. He said he STILL gets crap about the incident.
