Venturing into the unknown - turbos
I've taken a leap of faith, turning my back on the comfort zone of superchargers and have decided to give turbos a try.
I bought a twin turbo package with 2x Garrett GTX4202R billet impeller BB turbos and all of the oil/water lines and fittings, Garrett turbo tach, fitted sensor and datalogging wiring. Garrett rate them at up to 1150hp each, so running them as twins might be a bit radical for the street. What do you reckon; twins on a big block or single turbo on a small block? Maybe I should mount them as twin rear-mounts in the back of the ute. A couple of people looked strangely at the air filters protruding above the tray as I drove home! http://s868.photobucket.com/albums/a...f/4990cec2.jpg http://s868.photobucket.com/albums/a...f/5efb8ba0.jpg |
Well I reckon which way you go will be determined by the size of your Nuts and how tight they are or aren't !! Then again it could be determined by the size of your exhaust and whether it puckers easily......................or not ! LOL

Welcome to the dark side. My vote is for twins, but I'm obviously biased. Cheers.

Wow! they're huge. You might see boost in 2015... or maybe get into the 7 second range

Twin turbos on a big block in a car that weighs 1100 KG , good luck !!

Seriously though, one of those size turbos would suit a big block, with standard heads cam and bottom end. The torque curve would be immense.
Theres a video of a dax demo car on youtube with a 502cui / 8L chev going around brands hatch which shows monster torque, the car's barely over 2k rpm and roars up to 120mph effortlessly. NA too With one of those turbos it'd never need to rev past 4500rpm or run high boost. It would be a MONSTER |
I think you need to buy John Lang's Chrysler 300c Outlaw car and fit those twin turbos to a KB Hemi and go set some records.

Sorry Don,
It's just I've seen this car many times in the flesh and it's awesome. Just begging for someone to finish it off. Makes me sad to see it sitting there unfinished. Cheers |
These wouldn't go close to supplying the air/pressure requirements, but imagine what a twin turbo top fuel engine would be capable of! It's generally regarded that you would pick up in excess of 1000hp over the current supercharged combinations...
If I run a twin turbo configuration, the engine to support it would be too much for a Cobra. It would go into the Chevelle and replace the current 8-71 blown combo. Now, a single turbo small block in a Cobra might be an option. My short drive in OZVENOM's turbo street Cobra years ago was great fun. |
Here's my son's turbo hanging off the side of a 1.8L engine, might be just big enough :3DSMILE:
