Windsheild replacement

Hey forum.

Quick question....I have a new glass inset for the windshield...Is it necessary to remove the two uprights frames (housing the chrome window frame) to change it out or is there enough play )noting the slight top roll over) to loosen of the mounting screws and remove the old screen and frame, replace the glass in the frame with the existing rubber seal and then ease in the new glass and frame assembly..then re-screw to the two brackets into the frame.

Cheers..Adz...

Asking as it looks rather tricky to access the two side frame securing bolts up under the dash:confused:

I recently removed my screen (glass and frame) so I could polish the body right up to and under the windscreen frame. I just undone the two screws on each side on the uprights and also the wind wings (for memory one of these wind wings screws also went into windscreen frame). There was enough give to get this out as a one person job. Just take care and have a good hold and good footing.

The easy part is taking it out of the frame, but suggest you have someone else help refitting the new glass because sometimes there can be slight variances with glass manufacturers. I have changed mine 3 times now ( thanks Shannons) and the last one required using a ratchet strap to join the top half of the frame to bottom. Also use silicone spray when fitting glass into rubber.

Thanks Gents,

I have that kit so I will give it a crack (no pun intended...but today looks like a good day for car play so an ideal window of opportunity...sorry..a dad joke that time)

Cheers ADZ:)

Well that was an easy job.

Took about an hour with clean up and re polishing the frame and cleaning the glass.

Thanks for the tips fellas too.

ADZ out:)

Hey Adz I heard there was a red cobra down at the pub by lunch time so you must of knocked that job over pretty quick. :D

 Not me fella....I told the wife I was taking out for a run to "ahem..let the windsheild settle and see if the screws were seated correctly"...must have been another red cobra;)

Hi Tommie, your in the Australian section here, so we do not have the model cars your asking about.
But in saying that, my understanding is that all screens are the same as they use a replica/copy of the original screen frame.
