Procedure for ordering from Tire Rack

I was chatting to Ethan Burns at TireRack yesterday and raised the issue that I had heard a rumour that they were no longer shipping tyres to Australia. That is an urban myth.

Ethan informed me that they are still shipping to Australia. They recently had to make changes to their dealer arrangements with Yokohama, Hankook and some Michelin tyres. They are no longer permitted to ship these brands out of the USA. Only some of the Michelin tyres are still ok for export.

In order to get an accurate quote from them, you will need to supply your name. billing address, shipping address if different to the billing address, email address, home telephone No, including the country code and another telephone No if you can be reached elsewhere.

After they put together your order and have it weighed, he submits the order to shipping companies for quotes. Once he has the quotes, he chooses the lowest price and sends you an email with the total price. If you change the order in any way, start again from scratch.

They collect for shipping charges only. Any duties, customs, brokerage or taxes is the responsibility of the buyer. Tire Rack cannot accept credit card payments for international orders, only use bank wire transfers.

I think Ethan has taken over from Fred Helmuth, the man we all used to deal with. Hope this helps. I think I might duplicate this quote as a new thread
as it applies to just about all of us.

Thanks Baz, very useful. I found the biggest hassle when I first ordered was working out all the IBAN numbers etc, as they use different names in the States for some of that info. I kept my wire transfer paperwork to make it easier in the future.

Looks like plenty of Aussies are requesting quotes via their web page, below.

Late last year I purchased a set of 18" Pirellis for my daily driver and all I had to do was make the phone call ( courteous and to the point ) then go down to the bank and do the wire transfer...piece of cake and $1000 bux cheaper than here {sorry to all the local dealers} It took 8 days from payment received, to my door !!! My tyre man here said 6 months wait for the same tyres. Give em a ring !

Be sure you don't buy tires that have very old manufacture dates. Last tires I bought from tire rack had been sitting around for 8 years.
