Connecting AN to 5/16 hard line
Hi all,
What's the best way to connect AN fittings to 5/16 hard line? I've got tube nuts and sleeves for the 3/8, but not sure about 5/16. It's just the return line from the corvette reg/filter to the tank so shouldn't have much pressure. Should I just use olive style fittings? |
You can get flare-to-AN fittings.

Yes, that is what i meant by olive fitting. Looks like thats the way to go.
That ad says rated to 100psi, but i dont think that is correct as i thought they were usually only suitable for lower pressure (i.e. carby). I went with tube nut and sleeves for for 3/8 high pressure. |
They have a brass olive.
I have used this type before with great success. BUT if you ever need to remove the olive or the red socket, you may need to cut the line, or split the olive to get it off. A tube nut and sleeve works just as good if you can flare the pipe after the fittings are fitted to the pipe. |
Just get a -5 AN sleeve and nut. flare the pipe and off you go

If you are going to use a tube nut and a flare tool just remember that AN fittings are a 37 degree flare where as your regular flares are a 45 degree seat. If you use the regular off the shelf tool then you may have problems making the flare seat and seal properly.
You can do it by starting the flare with the regular flare tool and then using a steel AN fitting tghtened into the tube nut to finish it and set the seat at 37 degrees. Cheers |
