Good places to get nuts and bolts

Just a fairly obvious community service announcement - avoid buying any kind of fasteners from places like bunnings, supercheap ect.

I was in there getting some other stuff, and decided to look for a replacement M20x160 high tensile bolt while I was there. They had an M20x160, not high tensile, and they wanted over $14 for it.

I laughed and went back to the shop I bought them from originally, a place called franbridges in moorebank. I walked out with 100 M8 nuts, 50 M8 bolts, 50 M8 washers, 50 M10 bolts, 50 M10 nuts, 50 M10 washers, 2 M20x160 bolts (with nuts and washers) and 20 M12 washers.

It cost $20 for the lot.

I thought maybe if anyone else had found great shops to get stuff like bolts, fiberglass, brake line fittings, paint ect ect from, maybe you could share them here, and this thread might be a good place for other builders to save some coin :)

I get this sort of stuff from my local bolt shop "Alice bolt supplies"

Gotta help the locals where you can, when building my car they just wrote it all down, I signed and paid 1 bill each month.

Specialised Wholesale and The Hi-Tensile Bolt Company...If these blokes don't have it or can't order it...you'll have to get it made.

Yep, I kid you not!

Bolts were high tensile, everything else is nothing special. I bought 2 galvanised HT M20x130 and 2 M20x160 nuts bolts and washers here before for $10 total too :)
I think he gave these to me cheaper today cause I didn't need a docket. But anyway, the point is big name stores = gobsmacking markups

I use Cost Less Bolts in Moorabbin, but I prefer Bolts and Industrial Supplies, Phoenix Crt Braeside, 9587 8282, they seem to have a better selection of materials (eg zinc/black/stainless etc) and they're open Saturday morning (your loss Cost Less!)

I think we all know the green shed is the most unbelievable blatant rip-off ever invented. I can't believe the ACCC lets them get away with it.

Coventry Fasteners, Artarmon definitely

The local Economy Bolts store to where I work in Dandenong is very good.

Have regularly gone in for 2 or 3 small SS cap head and other bolts for prettying up jobs and they have just handed them over at no cost.

And certainly not charging outrageous rates for even high tensile stuff.

Alices Nut Supplies would be a more marketable name..

Their head office is on Evans Rd, Salisbury for the Brisbane guys. Great sales team in there and they have EVERYTHING in stock at a decent price.

Well you're sh!t out of luck. Time to get out of the dark ages and into the modern world. Australia has been Metric since 1970 FFS ;)

Actually they have a good range of imperial stuff too. :)

Phil I get that from the missus every time a Cobra "parcel" arrives in the mail. "I thought you finished that car 2 years ago?".

Parcels now arrive at the office to avoid any confusion :-)

Cheers Gregg
