Boxhead, I've been experimenting with GoPro cameras for a while (HD2 version) and I've found their onboard microphones and pre-amps to be absolutely terrible. I ordered a cheap mic (see below) and the foam windshield which is also in that listing, easily a 100% improvement in sound quality and it allows you to locate the mic down in your footwell in still air so you don't get any static. Mine took about a week to arrive from the UK.
BINAURAL STEREO TIE CLIP LAVALIER ELECTRET MICROPHONE | eBay You'll need the skeleton back door to allow the mic to be plugged in. I also wear the WiFi remote on my wrist so I can stop/start remotely without fiddling with the mobile phone app. Always try to record in the highest FPS you can - in your case 60fps for 1080p or 120fps for 720p. This results in better video in environments where there is a lot of vibration or very fast motion. Lastly, I always use Protune mode as it provides better contrast and higher bit rates (less artefacts) but it almost doubles the size of your video files - decide for yourself whether it's worth the trade-off. Oh yeah, grab a spare battery and/or an adapter for the cigarette lighter to allow USB to be plugged in. |

Just bought a Suction cup mount from Hardly Normal tonight - couldnt help myself. 40 bucks. Warren is right - they stick pretty good.
Dave - I tried it on a laminex surface and it didnt stick so I suppose it "depends" on how rough your primer is. I am hoping by attaching it to the body it wont pick up the Fuel pump(s) noise. Attaching to the rollbar which is attached to the chassis - which also the fuel pumps are mounted might be my problem. Or I just has noisy fuel pumps. Will see. 8 more sleeps :-) Cheers Gregg |
Cheers for the tips on settings Sambo.
Ryder, thanks for the link but I was advised anything for sale under $300 will not be "Australian Delivered" units, so any warranty issues will not be looked at by GoPro, as they deem the unit not suitable for sale in Australia (not sure if they change parts inside for Aussie ones), I am just passing on the warning I got. Looking forward to it all Gregg, see you Friday. |
Ok everyone, theres another "Affordable" sports HD video camera out there.
I just purchased a Monoprice MHD Action Camera and I am impressed. I own a HeroHD and use it fairly regularly on cruises, but I have problems knowing when it is recording and when it has timed out or other such problems. This unit is under $100 ($99.61 to be exact) and it looks as good as my Hero. It is waterproof without an extra case and easy to operate. The record is a big switch on top that turns it on if it is not already on and vibrates to let you know it has started/stopped recording. (Helps with the volume of the Cobras) Haven't had a chance to use it in the Cobra yet (weather issues) but I have tested it in my daily driver and it may just replace the Hero! you are right there are plenty of others out there. The trouble with gopro is the number of kids who liked them for skating, riding, surfing etc. That drove the price of them up quickly. |
