G Force lane change Test
 

Looking for documentation for the lane change test for a G Force with jag suspension.Engineer will accept test signed off by accredited person.The test has not been done in Qld to my knowledge and would save time and money.

I'm not positive but I think that form of test has only recently come into use down here in Victoria.

So it is unlikely a local G Force down here will have undergone this testing.

However as usual I could be wildly wrong with the statement above and someone might chime in and help you out.

As a NSW engineer who has done a lot of these tests, my opinion is that every car needs to be tested because even with paperwork from a wheel alignment place, some cars are downright dangerous until the alignment is actually checked and the handling verified. Just my 2c.

What is involved in doing the lane change test ? speed etc ?

However when you read the actual ISO standard it is based on, the ISO standard only requires speeds of 80km/hr. The intention of the test is to establish a qualitative set of handling behaviours, and so doing it at greater speeds is reasonably pointless; 80km/hr will be suitable for a competent person to establish the overall handling of the vehicle. Additional to this, I will both power on an lift off as I enter each stage of the test if I am satisfied with the stable throttle position. The aim there is to see if the vehicle has more power than traction, how it delivers the power, if it is catchable if it does step out, and importantly, if you have any lift off oversteer. The point of the test is in the title - the emergency lane change manoeuvre. It is a test to establish of you could safely avoid a collision by changing lanes suddenly, or if you will end up in another collision!

This test has been updated with the robotic sine wave test, and I'm pretty sure we have all seen a couple of mass manufactured vehicles fail these. The sine wave test is also used as a test of ESC systems. Currently there are no set limits for how a vehicle must perform in these tests, because each manufacturer is free to use whichever method they choose to improve stability.

Haha the RMS wolves! They are only scary if you fear them. Most bullies only understand one approach, and are often quite weak when you call their bluff.

The important thing to remember is they only care about the paperwork, not the real world. The same people were adamant that a Toyota Lexcen and a VN Commodore were different vehicles because the paperwork says so (and hence certain mods had to be certified differently). The real world points out that even the VIN structure is the same...

Anyway, that's a different story for a different day. Information is power, and rather than repeat myself here all day, I urge you guys to have a look at the Oz Clubbies site, because that is where I spend most of my time.

Unfortunately I'm an outsider here (I have a clubbie) and I'm an outsider there (it has a V8). I'm not fussed, as long as we all love cars. I also have an addiction to Rover V8's, but then, I'm a Pom - another reason why I know ICV registration shouldn't be as hard as people think.
