Newbe from SA

Hi All
I have been reading this forum for some time now and have enjoyed all of the threads, advice and jokes that are posted daily.

It has been a 25year dream, to own a Cobra, but never had the room to build, talent to fabricate, or cash to buy a kit for that matter......sooooo - what to do?
Got rid of the, then car loathing wife, got rid of my rotten job, got a better job, and a better wife who already had a better job.

When I spotted the Kirhams some ten years ago and decided if I was to have a Cobra, that was the one ......but how do I go about importing it?

.... ..... Ten years went by and along came - Craig at Absolute Pace to the rescue..

I took the plunge and bought a Kirkham through Craig. He is currently installing the engine and doing the brush finish on the body - plus a lot more bits and pieces.

Hope to take delivery in the next six to eight weeks. Can't wait:D

Still figuring out how to put photos on posts, I think I have managed to put some in my album if anyone wants a look.

I live in the Adelaide hills.

Cheers

This has to be one of the best lines that I have read in a long time........

Upgrade job... upgrade wife.

I would imagine it must be a dream come through to be expecting a Kirkham. What motor are you installing and what are the details of your build? Please post pictures! :D

Regards.

Thanks for your replies,

I have managed to put some photos in the gallery now.
(I am a bit technologically challenged, still trying to turn my new Iphone on)
I am not after massive HP I just want a cruiser (for now) so Craig found a new EFI351W for me and a Tremec 600 all stock out of the box. Masflo injection to come at a later date.

Hope to put the whole thing together during winter - ready for a spring time cruise. That's the plan anyway.

I'd love to have a Kirkham.
I'd love to have a better job.
I always believed I had the best wife.

Whew. For a minute there I was starting the envy you, but I think you deserve it for having been stuck with a car loathing wife all those years. Welcome aboard.

Some progress

Hi all
Its been awhile since I posted anything about my Kirkham.
Busy at work, computer crash but the two main reasons,
I am slack! And not a lot has happened. Now I am at home with about a million stiches in my belly from a "small" procedure so I have a bit of time.

(Hope pictures are attached)

After what seems to have been an eternity (14months)I took delivery of my roller on the 21st Sept 2013
http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...392108&thumb=1
http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...ictureid=11414
A very exciting day even if Craig had to hold all components that were associated with the electrics in the car due to a “glitch’s” in the loom as he described it
After a bit of drooling , oooing and ahhing I proceeded to put the car on the trolleys I made during the months I was waiting
http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...ictureid=11415
http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...ictureid=11425
http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...ictureid=11416

Parts that came with the roller included things like bonnet latches, mirrors, handbrake assembly side vents, header pipes and side pipes & fuel tank.
I had one delivery of parts just prior to Christmas , that included the oil cooler, starter motor and the compliant head rests, so that was eagerly bolted on.
I went out and bought all the plumbing for the oil cooler and made a bracket for the remote oil filter
Not happy with the LH pipe the way it is sitting so I will reroute that one

http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...ictureid=11419
Had another box of parts deliver the other day, it included tail lights, high mount brake housing
The Tail light needed modification to fit LED bulbs and fit a clear lens, cut and drill holes in the vac formed plastic backing ”tubs”, cut away the original light fitting creating a large void (second from left)

http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...ictureid=11420
A word of warning to anyone who are about to or will in the future do this mod on your Pace 427 (assuming Craig is using the same system) when removing the lens from the chrome trim you have to bend up some tabs to get the lens out, these are extremely fragile. I lost all but one tab on the first light I did, and even when being extremely careful I lost a couple on the other.
Made some interesting repairs and it will do for now, I will probably end up getting new lights, a bit down the track, you can’t see any damage or repair but it will bug me until I change them out
http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...ictureid=11421
Next the high mount brake light housing.
Fitting LED unit into housing was straight forward, remove the led unit from it plastic housing, cut the connector off and File some little plastic tabs off and push LED unit in place, I polished mine looks nice next to the chrome roll bar
http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...ictureid=11422
You can see the aluminum roll bar ferrules I made and I also machined a small flat spot in the middle of the steering wheel to accommodate the cobra logo.
Of course everything I have done is only temporary as it will all have to come out when I get my pesky little wiring loom, it still has a glitch in it ;)
If Craig will play ball and is able send my EFI and dash board, in the next couple of weeks I hope to be able to fill this void
http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/pict...ictureid=11378
and install my dash. Although I am not suppose to be doing any lifting for 8 weeks:(

That about it for now

Cheers

Thanks Dimis for comment and getting my photos up on the thread
Can't take credit for the garage decor my lovely wife is very visual and everything has to look just right, the trolleys are necessary as the cobra has to share with the forester wagon so the Cobra gets pushed into the corner when I not working on it
