Customs "breaks" for bringing in own gear from US ?

Can anyone advise if there are any advantages for having owned say a car/truck in the US for at least one year whilst over there working and deciding you wish to bring it back to Australia with you as a personal import ? Are there any differences in the costs compared to just having something shipped across and complianced once here.

Cheers

So True... They do that on purpose ;)
It keeps more people employed and makes it infinitely easier for them to hide behind "rules"... :(

PS: Just cos I'm cynical, doesn't mean it isn't true.

Just an observation..%/

Why is it so difficult to bring a car in..

Yet the Chinese flood our market with everything from cheap rip offs to re manufactured steel products at what seems the blessing and encouragement of our Government..:3DSMILE:

I am not quite sure how that works - with hundreds of jobs lost each year to overseas cheap labour markets etc.

And now they bring in a Chinese utility vehicle that does not meet even the basic crash and safety testing.. And you guessed it, we supplement the import and compliancing to make it even easier for them

Mmmmm ......... Sorry to Hi Jack the Thread

Valid points there Bernie, everyone of them. We have not been the 'smart country' for many years and with the current crop of dickheads in Canberra (all of them), we are certainly not spoiled for choice.
The greater good for the greater number is a memory, its all about minority groups, self interest and power and complete incompetance to manage anything. I think I better stop..............
