Ford / Mazda column with aftermarket uni
Guys,
I just received all my parts to do my steering linkages. I have jag rack to ford laser column. I got some nice shiny flaming river uni's, but the fit is terrible. I am using a stainless intermediate shaft from borgeson 3/4 36. Of the two flaming river uni's only one fit the borgeson shaft easily. The other had to be files to fit and even then I had to knock it on with a hammer and block of wood. I ordered a 5/8 36 uni to connect to the laser column, but this is way too small. Measured about 0.5mm smaller diameter and the splines are sharper. I have been messing around with file but I haven't yet got it to fit. Has anyone used an aftermarket uni on their ford or Mazda column? What size did you use? Was thinking maybe one is metric and one imperial or something. It's close but just won't go on. |
All good, a couple of hours more filing and it fits nice and snug. I guess it's better to be tight than loose.
