Anyone out there live near Ballarat or willing to take a drive there to view a car for me. Just to make sure it is all legit and have a quick look over it. Please either send me a private message or ashleybright71 at yahoo dot com dot au. Cheers, Ash

Ash,

What is the car you want looked at?

I have a mechanic friend in Ballaarat, but he is not a classic car person whom can report on body, condition, rust, etc. has a good idea but not a classic nut....%/

Bernie,

Have been thinking about safety and my Cobra for a while. No substantial rollover protection etc so have been looking at race cars... Finally found one worth looking at....
Sadly the Cobra will be retired from racing..... not sure whether I can afford to keep it or not. My wife doesn't want me to sell it cause I built it after my mate died from Cancer. She reckons I will regret it, had it for 12 years now, longest I've ever had a car.
Anyways this is the car, have committed to it, just want someone to look over it before I deposit the cash and make the 2 day drive down to pick it up...

Thanks Bernie, a Cobra GT40 owner by the name of Chris Goldsmith has offered to have a look for me. He has just returned from 'Austin Texas' so is keen to have a look. He lives just around the corner so is going to take a look for me.
Thanks again,
Ash

Jeez Ash, that's a serious bit of gear! The dash, wiring and sensors alone probably originally cost more than the current asking price.

What do you think might end up powering that monster?

Just a little LS engine... Don't want to have to rebuild a 5 litre race engine every 12 months. Just something with a reasonably reliable 400 ish rwhp....

Ash

No problem. Let me know if there is any problem, as we can get it checked out to ensure what you get is what is in the photos!!

Good luck.

Bernie,

Sorry I didn't get back to you.
Didn't get checked out because Mr Smith sold it from under me. Despite telling him I would take it and him saying don't worry about the deposit we will sort out the lot next week he sold it to another guy on the Saturday....

So the motto is never trust a truck salesman.....

Anyways i'm over that one.... I just bought the one in the link below.

The V8 Sleuth // Classifieds

Flew down to Sydney on Friday, looked at it and put a deposit on it. All fully paid for now, just gotta get down there and hope I can fit all the spares in the trailer / Rodeo. Had to widen the wheel arches in the trailer by 20mm on each side so the front wheels would fit in between them...... needed 193cm and the traier was 191cm between the guards....
Plan is to put in an L98 / Tremec and do some sprints before eventually racing it...
There is an Outlaw V8 sports and Sedans class up here which looks like fun and not too serious so I will prob give that a bash.

Thanks again Bernie.

Cars

Towy, your not Robinson Crusoe on that front.

2 mths ago I had Steffy Greco check out a car for me in Sydney. His feedback was it was worth getting a detailed inspection done so I booked it in with the race shop in the know and booked an airfare to fly down and inspect it, see it on the hoist and put some big $ into the owner hands....

On agreement of time and place and getting owners address etc not 12 hrs later he emailed me and told me he'd sold the car!!!

He wasn't a truck driver either!

Do I regret missing out.. I was peeved how the gig unfolded but in hindsight not bothered at all I missed it!

The car you got looks the digs! Onwards and upwards.

Enjoy.

(+ you have pm)

All good.

Guess even if we did get there to look it over, he would have sold it from under you. Plain old first in, I guess - so much for it's yours and I will hold it.

Good luck with the new purchase it looks good.

Bernie
