Fuel Smell in shed
Anyone got any thoughts on how to reduce fuel smell gassing off in showroom shed..... I haven't any fuel leaks but my shed constantly reaks of petrol gas.... Only running a carb engine and have a breathing cap ....I cant work out where the smell is coming from

Sounds like a leak somewhere, I had a boat that used to have a reaction in the tank after a couple of weeks not being used, somehow it would push the fuel up the breather pipe, so I left the fuel filler undone with a rag under the cap, seemed to solve the petrol smell in the garage. Has any one else found this reaction with aluminum fuel tanks?

I have an old Chevelle that had the regular braided fuel lines. These allow heaps of fuel to seep through and evaporate. The boot area stinks.
New fuel lines which can tolerate ethanol fuel might be your solution.

I would think having a tank vent to the atmosphere would be the issue. Personally I would fit a charcoal canister with a breather system and non vented cap. Realistically we haven't had vent tanks in daily drivers since the late 1970's.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Yes I did consider that maybe hide it in the boot and drop the breather out the bottom instead of returning it to the carby

sooner or later lines will 'weep'...
not 'leak'.. but break down.. and the fumes come thru the line.

Gas Smell
Have a Backdraft Cobra. When ever I filled the tank almost to the top, the car generated a strong smell of gas. Gas smell was coming from the flip open gas cap. Adjusted the bolt on the inside of the flip cap so it would seat better. There is also a rubber O ring that may need to be replaced. Note: Some air still needs to move in & out for proper venting. Gas smell is more or less gone.
