Making seat upholstery - something for a novice?
2 Attachment(s)
Cost is starting to really blow out - surprise, surprise - so I'm looking at some possible savings. I’m probably being delusional, yet again, but just how difficult is it to make GOOD seat upholstery. I know craftsmen make it look easy but is it something that can be achieved by a novice?
My plan is to unpick the originals and use the sections as templates to make new blue sections and then sew the sections together. Blue was use in the original GTOs and while I didn’t like it a first I’ve now kinda warmed to it. Thanks. |
Peter, there are a few companies out there that sell the covers pre sewn. They have hundreds of paternal and usually if they don't have yours offer to make one from your old covers so they can add a petern to the range.
I got mine from a guy on eBay who was extremely slow, but they came through in the end. I think it was around $350 for bonded leather and $600 for real leather. You then just attach them with cable ties. I think there is a photo in my gallery. They look professional. Spend some time on google and see how you go. |

Thanks Liam - Looks like they even have the blue. With Father's Day looming I'll chase up a quote.
FPV FG GTP Seat Conversion FOR Ford Falcon BA BF Covers | eBay Just wondering, are yours covers or retrims? |
They used to advertise all different covers, but now seem to be mostly holden and ford. Worth asking. I think they get them made in China so they take a while. Mine took about 3 months to come, even though they promised 2 weeks. Then when they finally turned up they had used the wrong foam in them and i had to send them back. I eventually got them though and happy with the final result.
