DRB/Torana Suspension

There is a 96 Drb Cobra with torana suspension on carsales.com.au. Is the torana suspension up to the standard to control the car like later suspension setups

boxhead 08-08-2013 04:12 AM

The Torana suspension can certainly be made to work.

itempany 08-08-2013 04:18 AM

Okay that is good to hear. I remember the Torana suspension to be soft....but that was a unmodified base model

Mrs flatchat 08-08-2013 04:26 AM

The Red one ?? you'll be good to go with that one -- they're good tough and reliable -- brakes may need to be upgraded, only if you plan some "spirited" driving activities:)

Towmaster 08-08-2013 05:24 AM

Fastest street registered Cobra at the Nationals, 1:05 lap time at Wakefield park... Torana Suspension..... You could say the Torana suspension can 'keep up'

itempany 08-08-2013 01:32 PM

That's good to hear

Gav 08-08-2013 07:25 PM

You need to have no fear if you want to do those kinds of times though!

can vouch for the brake problem...have replaced booster, master cylinder bled the cr@p out of it but still has the longest pedal i have ever felt ,stops but takes some getting used to,as for the torana front end ..i hear they won bathurst with it ...still unimpressed....doc

I think Chris meant you might need to upgrade the torana disc brakes if u want to do some racing... Long pedal can be improved quite easily but still is longer than 'normal'.
Front end is your standard double wishbone set up... Like they use in F1... Not impressive at all... Lol. Most of them use a similar set up, it's just how you set them up that makes the difference. Lower the top wishbone mounting point by drilling 2 new holes about 25mm lower and you will pick up a couple of seconds a lap no problems. Get some 'UC' Torana arms with built in caster for some high speed stability.. Also a bigger front sway bar... 27mm ish will do the trick. 2.5 degrees camber ...
Like I said 1:05.6 at Wakefield is the record for a street tyred, street registered Cobra... And it has Torana suspension!

Dark, do we need to remind you that GM Power was ol Shells first preferance.
So instead of building a Replica, GM powered means you are creating the vehicle, with the original builders intentions. (Making it how Shelby wanted to in the first place)

Gav 08-18-2013 11:46 PM

And while we are on the subject, does Darkside know what the 'darkside' is?

leroy17 08-19-2013 05:04 AM

It humors me with the Ford / GM ongoing remarks considering we are driving right hand drive, plastic bodied, loose replicas ( some better than others) and bitza parts.

Congrats on your rebuild and enjoying the drive and being a ' I've got one ' as opposed to the 'I'll get one one day..' but it never happening.

Oh yeah... For the record.... The chevs are not a bad option, and they make the right noise.

boxhead 08-19-2013 06:34 PM

Correct Leeroy, we are all driving (and enjoying) fake cars.

Any comments I make regarding Ford/Chev debates, is purely tongue in cheek, so all should please remember that.

None of our cars are Cobras, they are simply big matchbox cars.
