Sway bars
I have a uncompleted CR which has a rear sway bar already installed. And from past advice, Am I better of not running any, or do I need one for the front as well?

You definitly need one for the front, but is optional on the rear

How did you get yours made? Some one mentioned that a rear sway bar makes it squirrely in the rear, being such a light car.

There is a pic of mine with the inside front wheel a couple of inches in the air at the Nationals and I would think a rear bar would help stop this from happening.
Not flogging it around a track would stop it too no doubt :)
One of the B Clubbers got a swag of front bars made years ago, pedders in Sydney somewhere made them from memory.

Phil Neale organised a run on front sway bars from Pedders at Hornsby. Great guys.
Not sure if they do 1 off but worth a call.
I had front and rear on mine, worked great.

Gav, honest question - assuming that's your inside front wheel up in the air during a hard corner, what would a rear bar (reducing rear body roll) by itself do to fix that? |
There is a lot of body roll in the rear and the car is accelerating so lifting the nose and really leaning hard on the outside rear tyre, if it had a rear sway bar fitted it should (maybe) not roll as much.
I could probably put stiffer rear springs in it but that would not allow it to squat and hook up as well from a standing start.

Yes, I sold my car a while ago. It is now lives around Bathurst. I am trying out some American muscle with a back seat and roof for a while!

And also there is probably not enough droop in your front suspension......
Wayne Proctors car suffered the same affliction at the Nationals last year. Carried a front wheel all the way around the fish hook. Doesn't mean the car is slow, just probably not as fast as it could be. Depends what you want to do with your car. Regular street duties and the odd bit of track time wouldn't really warrant the use of a rear sway bar. Most Cobras have oversteer issues, put a rear sway bar on a car with oversteer and you get more oversteer... :confused: |
Mine has never had oversteer, but loads of understeer.
The heavier motor and bigger front tyres helped big time this year though.

Hi Gav,
If your car has never had 'oversteer', what do you call that little incident at this year's Nats., which occured at the end of the 1/8 mile during your first run in the drags?:LOL::LOL::LOL: It sure looked like oversteer to me.

Oversteer happens when the rear passes the front.......
Just not whilst braking..... :LOL::LOL:
I would have loved to see that Gav, the visible skid marks (as opposed to the ones in ur Reg Grundys) were quite spectacular! |

So I definitely need one on the front. What would the car handle like with no sway bars? What thickness bar on the front?

I ran mine with no bars an had a lot of understeer on the track.

Sure wasn't understeer Gav.........Not from where I was standing at any rate. As Towy says, 'The back definately passed the front' in a big way. |
