The show and shine was judged by invited non entrants from Qld NSW & Vic clubs.

Towmaster 11-09-2013 06:06 AM

The car that won was a newly finished Cobra with a 427 cubic engine in it. I believe the only 427 engined Cobra at the Nationals... Quite fitting considering the 427 body shape is the one we all copy....

Legless 11-09-2013 01:44 PM

Yep
A beautifully finished car, everyone liked it so much down here we took heaps of pictures of it all the way back to the Queensland border.

Sorry Wazza.

Sorry Wazza.

From what Wazza says in another thread, the RMS also took a few photos of his car. What a bumma mate. I just hope that you don't receive anymore letters.

Oh, that's what Legless meant...

Towmaster, how could you forget, the car that placed 2nd in the show & shine was Bernie's and he has a 427FE.

I was one of the many judges for the show & shine this year. Having a number of high quality judges I believe resulted in very fair results.

The quality of cars this year was amazing and there was no shame in not receiving a trophy as just placing near the top of the field was a major achievement in itself.

For anyone looking at improving their scores in the show & shine, it is all about consistency. Every aspect of your car has to be show quality - paint, interior, engine bay, wheels etc. And having your car spotlessly clean goes a long way. I saw a few cars that were scoring more points than the front runners in areas of interior, paint etc, but were let down by their engine bays etc a little. And you just cant come back from it. I also saw some very high quality cars that did not have their bonnets up, so you could not judge the engine bay and had to score it 0.

I would love to find a way to cater better for the non-racing attendees. Maybe a continual show & shine off track with regular prizes during the day.

Maybe even a dyno comp.

Maybe even weighing them all and trophy for lightest and heaviest.

Track cruises.

Something to attract more members & cars outside of the track racing.

Ack, certainly agree, the event is expertly run and a credit to all involved.

Err, an unintentional double entendre, which brings back horrible memories of failed advanced English classes with various incomprehensible terms like onomatopoeias, past participles and oxymorons. Yeah it was a joke about the speed cameras. Like someone on here posted recently “if you think my writing is bad you should hear me speak”. :JEKYLHYDE

Craig,

But.............. It's not 427 cubes........

468 I believe..... just too big.......

ha ha

Towmaster 11-10-2013 03:52 PM

Actually...........

I will be called out on this because the Cobras, while called a 427, were not actually 427 cubes. The 427 engine was actually 428 cubes and the 428 engine was actually 429 cubes.

But all you Cobra guys will already know that, right?

OK, I'll bite :)

I thought the maximum bore tolerance (for the 12 different piston sizes the factory used in 64 and 65!!!) was 4.2364".
Crankshaft max tolerance was 3.788"
Sounds like 427 to me...

Same max tolerance allowances for 428s still had them under 428.2ci

Now that I own a 427FE, I can say 2 things...
1. I have become one of those nerds who talk about engine specs to 4 decimal places:CRY:
2. I now know that they make decent power but WAY LESS low rpm torque than a similarly modified 385 series or Windsor engine
