thanks ross, sounds like a similiar problem, the guy i have been chatting to is supplying me with a quote for the 670 street avenger carb with dominator bowls twin fuel lines and the edelbrock straight through fuel pump as i have space issues where the fuel pump is located.

The street avenger has vacuum secondaries. If you want to maximize all the power your engine can make, get a mechanical secondary carb. The carb selector on Holley's web site even suggests a mechanical secondary carb for our light weight cars. I have replaced the street avenger carbs on both of my cobras (one had a 302, the other a 427) and in both cases, throttle response increased as well as dyno results.
If you stick with the SA carb, you're leaving horsepower on the garage floor. |

When I bought my replica (I believe it to be a box-stock 5.0HO from a 1989 Mustang GT) it had a Holley 780CFM vacuum secondary carb on it (3310???). It ran like a pig. I swapped it out for an Edelbrock Thunder (the smaller version, I think) and it runs like a scalded-ass ape now...bigger is not always better.
On the other hand, you have some go-fast goodies on yours that I do not have, so you can most likely handle some more carb. Have you considered a custom built carb? Blykins can take your specs and have a QF made that might just be the ticket. Cheers! Dugly :cool: |

had another little problem on the weekend, after testing the new fuel pump,no carb yet i found things improved a fair bit, but after the run i found my push in oil filler cap had disapeared, only a little bit of oil on the bonnet,
So went down to supercrap and bought a fill in cap non vented for the time being, went for the next run and now found the sump gasket has started to leak, so i checked the engine at idle and there is plenty of suction from the pcv valve, so just wonder why the original cap would of ever popped out, just wondering if you back off after heavy acceleration if the pressure may revert the other way and popped out the original cap? |
made the mistake of leaving both tappet covers fitted with non breathing caps while we were installing au2 motor,made quite the little oil puddle from pressure build up straight out the dipstik tube...silly ol dipstick :LOL:...doc

Well after having a look for xmas presents for the kids yesturday, there was a bit of spare cash left over, so the cobra got an early xmas present

I absolutely love the look of the dual-inlet center float Holleys....add a double pumper option and it seems like it should be the perfect carb!

Thanks Dugly, yes thats why i got that model 670 as it has the double pumper option if i feel the need to add it.
It was 41 deg c yesturday or 106 f so not ideal for testing power but the difference was very noticable, the car sat on a steady 195f so the cooling system is doing its job very well at the moment. |
