Anyone in the Newcastle NSW area?

Hi,
I've been toying with the idea of selling my very much not stock 911 and buying a Cobra. It would just be a Sunday car with the odd trackday thrown in a couple of times a year.
My question is are there any local guys whom I might be able to meet up with and have chat with about there cars? What they like and what they would do better/different next time?

I'm very handy with a spanner but I'm thinking of starting with an already built car as a "foot in the water" type thing. If I find I really love it but want a car more to my exact taste I'd look at a Pace kit down the track.

Thoughts? Ideas?
Martin.

P.S Looks like you guys have a nice active forum going on here so I look forward to doing some reading. :)

Welcome to the forum. I too was looking at the AP kit and it looks even better in person and Craig cant help you enough. But I wanted to experience a cobra sooner so I purchased one in Brisbane. If I was going to build from scratch, i wouldnt hesitate to purchase a AP kit. On the other hand there are quite a few cobras advertised online if you want to go that way. There are more experienced people by far than me on the forum to answer your questions. Everyone will make you feel welcome from my experience.

Cheers Ian.
I'm guessing it's a bit like the Porsche hotrodder community. You get a warm welcome and most people are up for a laugh. Unlike the Porsche "Purist" community where it's umm not the same lol.

To be honest I never even sat in one hence my wanting to talk to a local bloke. I'm thinking that getting a car that's already built will give me the feel for whether the car is going to suit me longer term.

Martin, I'm not near Newcastle but just wanted to welcome you to the forum. The good part about Cobras is that there is no right or wrong combination, so there aren't any Cobra purists to upset.
Chev, Ford, Lexus or Viper engine...
Manual or auto...
Jag rear, Nissan GTR rear, Ford 9" or Commodore IRS...
15" wheels or 20" if that's what floats your boat.

Aussies are much less caught up in the "period correct" approach that you see in other countries.

Cheers for the welcome Craig.

That's good to hear mate. I've always built things how I like them not how others like them so I should fit right in lol. I'm not a big wheels or bling guy but I love a good bit of engineering so you're talking my language.

This is how my 911 looked for quite a while. You can imagine how much the purists liked it.
