OK so GM Holden will be shutting their manufacturing doors in 2017, as will Toyota, same year, and Ford before that in 2016.

What about if GM allowed the Holden guys to get into some 'special projects'?

Some of us might remember the Holden Hurricane from way, way back in 1969?

There were some good design guys there back then, and there would be some good guys there now that would love to be allowed to do a little lateral thinking.
Australia could become the next Modena/Maranello/Sant 'Agata Bolognese ;) with the amount of design and engineering talent, as well as manufacturing facilities we have here.

Funny you should post about this car...

I just cleaned out 100s volumes of Top Gear and Classic car mags from my shelves.
Including one mag with an article about this car.
I thought at the time... Meh, the industry has left the country, these old mags may as well leave my shelves. I reckon I might regret turfing them, but we're downsizing ready to move house in a few months.

They're lying next to the recycling bin if anyone wants them, I'll hang on to them, else, they're being turfed.

The restored Hurricane was on display at the MotorClassica in Melbourne in October 2012. Power came from the yet to be released Australian designed and built 253 V8 and 4 speed. An innovation for the times was a rear camera and dash mounted monitor with no rear veiw mirrors.

The car has been beautifully restored and is obviously in good hands.

I remember seeing the Hurricane on display at the Holden Dealer in Bendigo in 1969 and thought it was the ugliest car I had ever seen and seeing it again in 2012, I still reckon it's ugly but I really do appreciate it for what it is, a fine example of Australian engineering.

Partial agreement. The front half looks like it's related to the Countach (and this was before the Countach was on the market) , but the rear half looks like a bit like an aerodynamic panel van. Still, for an effort from 1969 when we were buying HT Holdens and XT Falcons, not a bad effort.

It's mid-engined and lower than a GT40 (at 39"), so probably safe to say that it was a bespoke chassis design.

Glen ... That pretty well sums it up ;)

Interesting effort, very original design to say the least. I have to admit that I have never heard of this car before. It does have the look of a Lamborghini from dead on in the front, but it goes downhill from the mid section back. I’ve never been a big fan of fender skirts. To my eye some nice wheel arches over the rear wheels and a glass back light would go a long way in cleaning up the design. There must be some pretty serious headlights under those panels, if they are functional. Thanks for sharing!
