under gaurd protection
What if anything has everyone used as a stonechip protection on the underside of the fiberglass guards?
Stan. |
I've used "Rhino Lining"
Protective Coatings, Epoxy Flooring, Seamless Flooring | Rhino Linings Not cheap...a bit of rooting about...but looks good and works well. Superformance ( and others) have also used what is basically "Wet suit rubber" glued under the guard. I recon that would work well also. Cheers, Warren |
i went wetsuit material glued on with sikaflex under the main area of the guard that stones will go. I then coated the entire underside with primer, then coated with a spray on body deadener that used a gun that screws onto the bottle (shultz gun?). Then painted over with gloss Por 15 black. There are a few different body deadeners/stone guards, not all are paintable though. The one i used was water based.
The finish is super hard from the pro 15 and the body deadener and foam provide some insulation. Looks really nice and fairly inexpensive. I think the gun was only about $20 from memory. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...4747701729.jpg |
Kirkham sells an under fender lining...
|
CLARK Rubber have an adhesive rubber product that is about 8mm thick. Comes in sheets and is quite expensive as it has sound deadening qualities as well.
Worth a look.. |

Did you use this... Or the Kirkham supplied underliner? |
I used brush on deadener from Super Cheap Auto, It came in a 4 litre tin, think it was about $50 from memory. To do all 4 under guards I used about 1/2 the tin, single coat, this stuff is like a tar paste and it went on about 3mm thick. I used $0.50c brushes from Bunnings so I didn't have to bother cleaning them (wash-up is turps).
Dry finish is matte and rough. |
Dimis,
I have used some of this over the Kirkham deadener as these areas are target spots for stones being thrown out of the tread. |
I used generic spray paint from a can
No damage so far despite some pretty severe provocation LB |

6mm neoprene on four corners. All good so far. Geof |
