How Phat is your Cobra?

Hi Everyone,

It is something that has bugged me since I finished my Cobra.

I only guessed the weight during Eng/Rego etc.

I was out the other day and went in to a Recycling centre and paid the guy $10 to weigh it.

It was about what I guessed.

1100 Kgs with 50L of Fuel (me not in it)

Mine is a Round Tube CR with Ls1 and underbody exhaust and fake side pipes.

Interested to see what other Cobras weigh.

Cheers

Gregg

1150kg.
Qtr tank of petrol.
Twin sports exhaust and fake side pipes.
235R15s on rear and 195 front
DRB #41 with windsor engine.
PS I got ripped off - I paid a whole lobster - twice as much!!!

If anyone is interested just find a nearby trucking company and they'll weigh it if you flip them some cash - it only takes a couple minutes to drive on, stop and drive off.
Thanks

The original 427(cid) AC's weighed in at about 2,350 lbs. with 1/2 tank fuel & fluids. My ERA with same set up is 2,605lbs. Thats within 255lbs of original weight. The stronger glass body is worth the weight gain; plus a few extra HP makes up for that with no Prob! :3DSMILE:

Gregg

You got me curious and looking back through my old info. I found the weighbridge ticket.

Car was pretty bare at that time and not sure of the fuel load but weighed in at 1,240kgs less driver.

Given I'll now have twin heavy roll bars, heavy fake side pipes, a slightly fatter driver, trimming etc etc I can see my car shifting into the upper 1300kg bracket.

But hey I'll take a fat cobra any day under the current circumstances.

The most lightweigt one I had was a RAM with all ally motor. 920kg with water, but no fuel).
And I didn't even spend money on lighweight parts, except the 496cui motor...

Just left everything off!

G'day Gregg, My Cobra was 1140 kg (equates to 2,513 lb) at the weight station. About 1/2 to full tank of fuel I think, can't recall. Has an iron ford fe motor, and magnesium 15in wheels (7.5 f and 9.5 r).

Mine weighed 1090kgs with the old alloy motor.
The cast lump in it will have taken it to around 1120kgs I would think.

Sounds like 1100 is pretty common for the alloy engine variety. My engine was originally out of a VY SS which is about 1600Kgs. So half a ton less to haul. Power to Weight about 0.25 (for me that is). About half way in the top ten:

1097.5 kg on corner scales with ballast, was quite a bit heavier on the weighbridge from memory.

Not specific to Aust car weights, but here's an interesting comparison of components going into an ERA cobra. http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/era-...98-weight.html
(All in pounds obviously)
A saving of 30lbs just in a battery is amazing!

I'm heading off now for another hot cross bun. If I need to throw another 2 degrees of advance into the 427 to maintain the power to weight level, so be it... :)

Fast289 04-20-2014 01:58 PM

Hi. My FFR 289 is 2250 LB.

That is with full tank of fuel, I have a 24 gallon fuel cell. That is also with heavy GY GT II tires, I have GY BillBoards that are much lighter when I track her.

Please don't ask the weight when the pilot is sitting her!!!!!

Cheers

Was that the car or the driver sitting in it? :p

boxhead 04-21-2014 08:29 PM

I dare say both.
