That's cool I want one of those, I bet they're a bit dearer then a GTR though.

I thought the concept 2020 was just a video game car on Gran Turismo. Didn't know Nissan would actually build it.

For the record, the Goodwood Bonhams auction today sold CSX 2423 for £696,000. That's English pounds, not dollars! Fully rebuilt from a burnt wreck.

Even more remarkable was the darn-near £1million (pounds!) paid for an early Lamborghini Countach. It'll end in tears, you mark my words.....

Watching the super-cars going up the Goodwood hillclimb course was breath taking. The sight and sound of the cars, the glorious location, the sunny weather, the appreciative crowds, the considered and knowledgeable commentary -- all combined for a memorable viewing experience.

To see such exotics as the La Ferrari and the new hybrid Jaguar and Porsche being driven in anger and not languishing away in some collector's museum is hugely exciting and satisfying to the rest of us who can never aspire to ownership of these beauties.

These cars are probably not every day sightings in Europe but they're seen on the road often enough. It really drives home how much we miss out on here in Australia.

Thanks Peter for posting the link.

Very sad night for me. I stayed up to 1:30am to watch the Bonhams auction and see the Lotus 49 be sold. I first saw that chassis as a spotty schoolboy in1969 when I wagged school and jumped the fence for the Friday practice at the Warwick Farm Tasman race. Little did I realise that 45 years later I would be fiddling with it.

I was however pleased to hear the auctioneer congratulate a "racer' for buying it so one hopes it will continue to get an airing rather than sit in a museum.

Peter, please tell us more about your involvement with the car. I love hearing more about historic race cars.

750hp 06-27-2014 09:13 PM

Trevor - it must be so easy to get caught up in the moment when surrounded by such staggering machinery. Throw in a bank account to support such a momentary lapse if reason and this is the result!

Donunder 06-27-2014 09:14 PM

Peter it's certainly a shame that you won't be able to pop in occasionally and see this 49 as you used to but it sounds like it's gone to a good home. Europe or the US I wonder?

Either way if the gods are kind, you'll have the chance for a reunion meeting somewhere down the track I'm sure. Lovely shot of G Hill too. Man those wings were tall weren't they?
