255/60/15 Tires??
Morning all,
I have been spending excessive amounts of time trying to work out the correct tire size to fit to 15" rims on my DRB build. I have finally come down to the size of 255/60/15 for the rears in hope it will provide a nice full look in the guard without being too big. Has anybody on the list fitted these tires before? Any comments on the height of this tire which I believe is about 685mm - does that seem ok on a cobra? |

I have 245/60 15 on back and 225/60 15 on front in Yokohama. The rear tyres fill the guards nicely.

I have 255/60-15 Bridgestone RE710 rear and 225/60 front. They are tall and would fill the guards guards well but I need to lower my rear. I would like the look of a 275/50 or 295/50 better, but grabbed them when a batch of these 710's were imported back in 2000. Excellent in the wet and great street confidence was the reason. Even back then the choice for a good 15" was poor.
If you do go the 255/60's I would use a 235/60 up front. There is a big height difference between the 255 and 225. I can get a pic if you wish. |
235/60/15 on the front and 295/50/15 on the rear haven't finish building yet to see how the car will handle but if its no good then I will change the front out to 245/50/15.

Thanks all, really appreciating the advice and suggestions. I have actually built wooden rim/tire mock ups to check for clearance etc etc. At this stage 255/60/15 look just to miss everything and 235/60/15 on fronts which again look to just miss everything. I have some old stock 15" rims, so I might take a punt and buy one tire of each and fit to these rims and pack them out to replicate my estimated offset. That should be the safest direction forward yes?
Psycho - very jealous you can get 295 on the rear! Just too big for my DRB build space :( |
ps, RIMS - who can advise where to go?
Ive seen loads of options. Vintage Wheels in the US seem to have a good range and order system, but wondering if its smarter to order in Australia. Looking for the knock off replica Halibrand with black painted inner and chrome sides |

I've been looking at options for 15" tyres for my Corvette. I'm running 255/60/15 on all 4 corners.
The choices are pretty limited these days. There are 4 main ones to choose from. I reckon the Mickey Thompson S/T is about the best bang for buck at the moment at $190 Mickey Thompson S/T Hercules HP4000 is readily available in that size and about $200 each Hercules HP4000 The Cooper Cobra is another at similar money Cooper Cobra The old BF Goodrich T/A is getting hard to find. I think they are still in production but no one seems to stock them any more. BF Goodrich T/A As far as tyres go they all pretty much of a muchness. If you want something performance oriented you will probably need to look at AVONs but they are hellishly expensive. |
255's on G-Force
