Windsor in round tube Classic Revival

Just wondering out there if anyone knows of a Windsor being fitted into a round tube Classic Revival. Not wanting to move to the 'darkside' I'm fitting one into mine, but running into a few issues and would love to contact someone who has already been there.

In all seriousness though, what's wrong?
There is not that much difference between the square and round chassis is there?
Have you been sent a chassis set up for an LS perhaps?

All things can be achieved with application of plasma cutter and welder. Changing mounts is not difficult. I remember supply the dimensions to someone years ago doing the reverse conversion. They had a chassis to suit a SBF and wanted to switch to LS1.

Give us a bit more detail on what your issue is.

Cheers

Hi Mike, from what I hear you are are lot handier than most. My current issue is that I mated a T56 to the Windsor and with the rear mount of the transmission located, the engine pulley is about 2.5" too far forward ie it sits on top of the steering rack rather than behind it. I can't move the gearbox back and even where it is, I've been told it could be too close to the diff to fit a tailshaft. The distance from the front of the bellhousing to the mount is 10mm less than the Chev version, but the gearbox I have is 140mm longer overall. I'm thinking I may need to go to the TKO600 instead. I have asked if it is possible to get a pulley system that is setback, but have been told no.

The T56 is a very long box. Have you got the ford version or the GM version? I believe the extension housing on the Ford version is longer than the GM. You might gain some clearance there.

The other though is.. Are you running a serpentine pulley setup? You might gain some clearance by going to a gilmer drive as the pulleys are much smaller in diameter and the crank pulley may run over the top of the rack.

Posting a couple of pics would help.

Cheers

As for you Gavin,
why don't you go fcuk yourself?

Regards.

I imported the box from the US and it was to fit a Ford modular engine. The GM one has a shorter extension housing so that would help my possible issue re tailshaft length, but not my other issue re the engine being longer than the Chev. Yes, I do have a serpentine belt system and a smaller diameter pulley would allow me to lower it somewhat, but not sure it will be enough. I'm checking to see how low I need to get the crankshaft centre down to see if that might be a possibility. If it wasn't so hard, I'd post a photo!

Would lowering the rack be an option, given you would need to address the geometry with the tie rods?

Aussie Mike 07-28-2014 04:53 AM

It's a round tube Gav. I think the rack sits on top of the chassis rails.

Cheers

correct - rack is above those big round tubes. (just had mine out to fit new tie rods and arms). Cheers Gregg

Oilman,
