American/Canada Trip
Hey all
Happy to inform all I am going on a much deserved break next week for 4 weeks to the United States and Canada. Will be in New York only for 4 days and then to Canada and a week in Hawaii on way back. Question is....Can any one recommend motor related activities not to miss in any of the 3 areas? Will try to get to Factory Five which is about 4 hr drive each way from NY....will see how I go. Hope to get plenty of motor related photos and will post them on return in Oct. See ya all on my return Ian |
Hi
not quite what you might have in mind, but we hired a Mustang convertible and did a lap of Oahu. I can recommend that drive... where are you staying in Hawaii? Enjoy the trip! Tony |

What dates will you be here? |
You just missed the annual Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit. Trust me, that is something to see if you ever get the chance!
|
While there are many things available year round, some motoring activities or events are specific to certain dates. What is the timing of your trip, approximate dates in the various locations, etc.?
|
The dates are all over the place but I think they as follows;
New York Sept 3-7 Montreal Sept 7-10 Toronto Sept 10-11 Seattle Sept 14 Vancouver Sept 15 Rockies Tour Sept 16-27 Maui Sept 28- Oct 2 Oahu Oct 2-6 Doing a tour through the Rockies and but would love to meet up with any Cobra enthusiasts to compare ideas Regards Ian |
Ian,
Unfortunately the timing of your visit to Canada doesn't really coincide with any big car events that I'm aware of. You're just missing a couple of good ones in the Cobble Beach Concours d'Elegance, Sep 13-14 (Sat-Sun), and British Car Day in Bronte Park, Oakville, Sep 21 (Sun). And all of the big racetracks -- Mosport, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Mont Tremblant, Sanair, Trois-Rivieres, Calabogie and Shannonville -- are pretty quiet during your dates here. Fortunately, your dates in New York state coincide with a fantastic event: namely the U.S. Vintage Grand Prix at Watkins Glen NY, Sep 3-7 (Wed-Sun). I highly recommend it, if you can make it. While you're in the Toronto area, be sure to visit Legendary Motorcar Co. in Milton ON which is just a short drive west along Hwy 401. They always have some original Cobras there, and maybe you can arrange for a shop tour too. I'm not sure what car events are going on in Vancouver mid September. Hope you have a great visit, Brian |
Hi Brian
Thanks for the info. I will certainly look into making time for the Watkins Glen event and Getting to Legendary Motorcar Co. Ian |
Enjoy the trip Ian. With regard to Hawaii, the wife and I grabbed a Corvette for a day and drove round the island, it was fantastic. A must do in any open top car !
Cheers Chris L PS Also had a little trouble at the airport with my hand luggage, apparently the Detroit soft lock centre was a little bit much.....tipping the scales at 18kg !! |
Hey Chris
Got a shopping list for a few things and will prob post/ship them home. Depends if budget stretches far enough........ Ian |

Hi Ian
There are some good drives on Maui too. Up the volcano, and a day trip around to Hana - much less touristy. We stayed at Kaanapali. A whale watching cruise from there is good to do as well... Enjoy! Tony |
