Chasing a sheet metal folder - panbrake
Guys
As suggested in the title I'm chasing a basic metal bender to use for some aluminium panel bending in my cobra on its return. Does anyone have a shed special I could buy or borrow? Am looking to bend up kick panels for the cabin and boot prior to sending the car to the trimmer. Will be in say 1.5mm aluminium so not major bending power needed. Realised I probably should have done this folding work before it went off for paint but so be it. I'd also ask what suggestions the group might have for fixing and locating these panels in place. Look forward to some suggestions and possibly access to a bender. Cheers |

hi slowy, I have an 18" brake, I have done 1.6mm stainless on it which was a push, 1.6mm aluminium is easy. You're welcome to borrow it.
You clamp it to the bench with G clamps, and another two clamps to hold it together. If 18" is wide enough for your panels, let me know. Ben |
You can get the plastic panel clips from the auto parts shop in the plastic packets. Same as used on production door trims. Just cut a slotted hole so they can be replaced later when they break.

The bending is something I can do at my timing and at home which is SE Melb Kyleb so thanks for the offer anyway. Ben I'll take you up on your offer as I think most of the panels I'll need to bend wont be much more than 450mm. I'll be in touch and thanks. What about the idea of fixing panels though guys? |
Check out Cornetto, Andrew has done a great job doing his engine bay and boot in aluminium.

I bought a cheap 24 inch one of ebay yrs ago for doing a bit of alloy work on the race cars making dash set ups ect ect . it worked ok for what it was and I ended up using it for a lot of other jobs as well and was worth the 100 or so bucks I paid for it . I lent it to a mate who lend it to a bloke who cant remember who he lent it too . so I have no idea where it ended up . but I would just grab another cheaper if I need one again .

Thanks Mr T your bending looks like a work of art. Are the extra gussets to provide greater bending power? Would you be able to email a copy of those plans to me?
Ben The car is up at Greg's palace so your welcome to drop in for a beer but no car here. How about I come over to your place and look at your car instead? In fact about to go tripping out to Greg's to show wiffey Greg's progress and then onwards to the trimmer with the previously painted test bonnet in tow to discuss fabric options and colours against the actual car colour scheme. |

I think you should just go an see your good mate Ray at McKinna Sheet Metal. The fold all shorts of stuff. They fold all of our flashings, their aluminium ranges from .75mm up to 5mm. In either mill finish of anodised. The also do stainless. The also have in house laser cutting. Rod |
