Cobra reference book

Hey Fellas

I know this has probably been asked a million times but is there a good picture Reference book on the 427 Cobra? I know my new Alumina is far from original but I would like to incorperate as many original little details as I can..... plus i need some good reading.

Cheers
Dave

Hi Dave
I have a few books on Cobras, my favorite is COBRA by Trevor Legate.
I bought it long before I bought my car just to dream.
they are a bit rare now and a bit exy.
Another good one is AC COBRA The truth behind the Anglo-American legend.
Just google up Cobra on any of the internet book shop ( booktopia, Amazon, bookdepositry or fish pond)
Or if you want to go the whole hog buy the AC Cobra registry book, I was looking at it this morning actually I will find the link if you are interested

Cheers

Dave

Here are a couple of sites that might help:

Shelby American Museum

Also you might invest in the book: "World Registry of Cobras and GT40s" 4th Edition, and join SAAC http://www.saac.com/ (if you have not already).

All the best will your project. Will be looking on with interest, and envy :-)

Colin Comer's book

I just received Colin Comer's "Shelby Cobra, 50 Years" about two weeks ago. Excellent book. A lot of good info on specific cars, and plenty of good pictures to go along with it. I also have Trevor's book "Cobra, the First 40 Years". While it is a good book, Colin's is my preference.

I have the registry as well. A completely different animal. Good written history on just about every Cobra ever made, but not if you are interested in seeing pictures for reference. That's just not what this book is for.

Many years ago, in 1967 I think, I bought a book titled "Carroll Shelby's The Cobra Story by Carroll Shelby". The flyleaf adds "As told to John Bentley, originally produced by Lyle Kenyon Engel" and shows the date 1965.

It's a wonderful read but a long time ago a mate of mine who is an avid motorsport book collector and dealer told me that there was some sort of controversy about this particular book. If it were a book about Austin Healeys he could have quoted me chapter and verse about the book's question mark but suffice it to say he advised me this book was not "proper" somehow.

Perhaps some CC student of Cobra lore may be able to now belatedly shed some light on the mystery.

Shelby Cars in Detail by Frank Barrett and Boyd Jaynes. Also exe, but great. Pitstop books can get it.

Recommended to us last year at a club meet by a guest speaker, genuine cobra owner (two) and someone who knows his Shelby's.

If you're after examples of how the originals looked, check out CSX 3000 SERIES
I found this helpful when I was looking for an original looking replica.

"Original AC Ace & Cobra" by Rinsey Mills. Unfortunately, it's no longer in print, but there are a few copies listed on eBay at the moment.

+1 Comer's 50 years

Tengu, that's a great link for general pics thanks.
Computerworks (a ClubCobra moderator) and Kris Kincaid from Shelby had a "CSXINFO" website that has since disappeared. Those two had an incredible eye for details, and took high res detail photos of original cars. I'd love to know if those photos are indexed/hosted somewhere at the moment.
